Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Well spoken yankeehunter, and I wholeheartedly agree with you as well!!

Ken, last year most of the places I usually hunt were infested with other hunters, might as well compare that to hunting public land, at least that's what it felt like to me. This season so far, I guess I'm lucky, in the fact that I haven't bumped into anyone else yet. I now try to hunt the weekdays more instead of the weekends, when everybody and his brother are out!! I still get excited for the spring hunt.

Pumped?? Oh YEAH!! When I quit getting pumped up for the season, shot, experience, I'll quit chasing the birds. I haven't been at it long, this was my 3rd year, but I've been deer hunting for 25years and I still get pumped hunting deer, but I think I like turkey hunting even more. I was told I would before I ever went.....didn't believe the hype until the first day in the spring woods. Turkey huntin' is AWESOME!!! My wife sure don't like it though.[:'(]

The reason I ask is. I prob kill anywere from 3 to 7 deer every year with a bow. Bucks and does. And if you through muzzleloader and rifle in it might be 10 to 12 a year. To be honest with ya deer hunting really does'nt get me that excited. And I do this every year with out any vacation time. Now on the other hand I have 2 week that I take every year for turkey hunting and I'm luck to kill 1 let alone 2 gobblers. To me turkey hunting is a challenge. I just figured that all these guys out there that kill turkeys like I kill deer would just get board with it after awhile.

Wholeheartedly YES!
I usually limit out in 2 states and every turkey gets my heart racing, no matter the size. I can't fathom that any drug could feel better, or be more addicting, than an up close encounter with a gobbling turkey. I can't get enough! I'm looking into hunting up north somewhere next year so I can extend my season.

Oh ya, even if I'm tagge or not, the last day this year we were working a Tom and I went to move closer, ended up bumping into another guy already working him, so I backed out and went to find my partner, well my partner had moved in on the bird to a fairly close position(He didn't know someone else was working him too) SO I just strapped on my orange and took myself out of the game. If someone else was there first I won't try the bird any longer. Well I stood and listened to it all unfold, man I was shaking like I was holding the gun. We never did bag him out of the three of us, but did manage to get him(my Partner di) to 70 yards before fly up...Oh well there's one Limbhanger still roaming those woods for next year BUt ya It's exciting no matter if your shooting or watching, just being out there and hearing Ol' TOmmy fire off at you is why we play

Hi
I've been hunting public land over 25yrs here in New Hampshire and Vermont and the last 4yrs. Have had the pleasure of hunting with my son, who is 14yrs old. I get my Turkey every year and so does my son, since he started hunting with me. When the season is over, we don't just stop Turkey Hunting we Video
all year long knowing the patterns of the Turkeys where we hunt and also we have a log we keep everytime we go into the woods. I guess what I'm trying to say is Turkey Hunting to us is a all year round thing....When I started years ago, there wasn't alot of info like there is today or such GREAT Forums like we have here with all the Great Turkey Hunters and all the info a young hunter can get if they just ask and what to learn..I bet you can ask all the Hunters, and they will tell you. That everytime they go out they learn something new most of the time...So to answer your Question "Do you still get Pumped" the answer is Yes, and the day I don't is the day I well stop Turkey Hunting ..........I wish everyone could feel the feeling when you watch your 10yr old Son Bag his frist Gobbler, and then ask why you have tears in your eyes and you tell him because your my son and you make me proud.......then he hugs me...............

What? Of course. Its all about the gobble.... When you have been hunting for three days without hearing a gobble and then finally on the fourth day you get a response, BOOM! THERE GOES THE ADRENALINE RUSH... Better yet when he comes into range!!! Hens have been known to make me breath heavy on occasion!!!lol

Ken good question!!!
My early years the high was based on laying them in the grass!Inotherwords the kill was everything, and trust me I'm still out to put my hands around a bigole longbeards legs and walk out of the woods with him stuffed in my vest, but over time things like huntin with a good friend or family member and watching them harvest there first bird.Hearing that first gobble each spring.Out witting an old tom who frusterated you all season.Bagging a call shy gobbler in hunter infested woods. The smells, sounds, and just the overall change of seasons.Little things like a few of these mentioned add up over time that you learn to appreciate rather than basing your season on how many birds you bring home!Yeah I still get pumped in fact now I get even more excited with each new upcoming spring in learning what else to look forward too from years gone by!!!

Well put Bob, I agree with you 100%!

The only thing I can add is when it gets to the point where my heart doesnt kick it up a notch and my breathing doesnt get outa wack and the barrell of my gun doesnt shake, then it's time to quit!
I pray that I "NEVER" get to that point,
If I do then I just quit taking a gun and start callin for other people full time cause there noway I can stay out of the woods during the spring!
