ok, well i just recieved notice that i got a turkey permit this year and im pretty pumped. i thought i would be hunting with my dad's friend who would be doing the calling for me but turns out he has to work. ive been doing a little research on some calls in the internet. ive been watching a lot of shows about turkey hunting too but i still cannot figure out which calls do what? do they all do the same? what is a slate call used for? push button? box? mouth things? these questions might be stupid but i would really love to get a gobbler this year so i need some help. thanks much.

From what I know they all have there place in the woods. Box mostly calls really loud for long distance.. A Slate can get out there to.. push call usually put on your gun for in close.. and mouth call is mostly used for close range.. Most people I know call the turkey in with a slate and then go to a mouth call to bring them the rest of the way in..

Well they can all do pretty much the same thing each with a little different way of doing them. Box calls seem to be the loudest and usually get through the wind the best. It's good to have all different kinds. Email me if you have any questions. I will be willing to help.

They all will pretty much make the same kind of calls. The thing is, they will all sound differant. Some are easier to use, for you I would say the push button will be the easiest. If you have some time to practice, get yourself a slate or glass (preferrably a Cody"II") and practice your but off. This is one of the easier calls to learn, but when mastered makes some of the best sounds. The key to using a glass is rythym! Hope this helps.

if your new to calling my advice is by a beginners kit. I picked up a knight & hale beginners kit for my son who's getting into it this year at wll-mart for $20.00 bucks. its a good kit for beginners. consists of a mini-slate call, push call, double reed diaphram, crow call, and a instructional dvd. H&S strut has one to.
