RE: Some Rio Grandes.... (pics)
Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I cant wait until the end of March when spring season opens up here in South Texas.
Adrian, the camera used is the new Canon EOS Digital Rebel. It is a SLR type digital with 6.3 mega pixel resolution. The lens used was a Sigma 300mm tele. and the birds where from 30-50 yards in subdued late afternoon light.(shade)
Raven, while there are huntable numbers of Eastern' s now in Texas, I have never hunted them. I beleive the Easterns are slightly bigger but I could be wrong. A 3 yr old Rio gobbler will weigh about 20 lbs or so. Up in the pan handle and far west near the New Mexico border, Meriams can be found. If only we could get the Osceola' s to thrive here we wouldnt have to leave the state to get a slam.

Wow those are some nice birds, and a great camera!!!
Yep you got the size thing perfectly, easterns usually get a little bigger. Here in Ks we have both rio' s and easterns the rio' s avg 18-20 lbs for a mature tom 20-24 lbs for a mature eastern tom.
Good luck in the spring.
