Ace,
To be honest I' m detailing my birds in the areas I hunt almost all year long.Obviously as spring season approaches I pick up the pace.Anymore I make it point not to use a call whether it be a turkey call or a locator before season opens. To many guys nowadays chase turkeys around the woods before season starts using calls and it can create wiser less responsive birds. You can accomplish the same effectiveness in your scouting not using calls by being able to read sign, the lay of the land, and patience in doing more listening than walking.Use binoculars there one of the best tools to your scouting there is.Also hit the woods before daylight and at dusk and listen for those early and late gobbles as the days lengthen. This can give you an idea of where there roosting!Overall time spent in the woods not aimlessly blundering through your turkey woods will tell you alot about them,so make it point to get out there!!
Good luck....Bob
