I bought a camo suit for my son a few years ago at wally-world for a song. He was 4 at the time and I told him as soon as he grew into it, he could go turkey hunting with me(just to watch) I didn't think he would grow into it untill he was 8 or 9, but guess what? He's 6 now and it fits him perfectly. Does anyone have any experiene taking young kids hunting? I don't want to go back on my word, but 6 seems a little young.

I have been taking my liitle girl since she was three with me in the turkey woods and she starting hunting them at age 5 killed her first a six and now has two under belt and can hardly wait for this spring just remember their young and can't sit still very long if there nothing going on, the ground blind works well for her makes it alot easier, she also killed her first deer this year a 19 inch spread 8 pointer her first trophy at age 8 it just doesn't get any better or more exciting for the her dad,i just hope she keeps on going.

ChrisK welcome to the board . In answer to your question it wouldn't hurt to start your son at six ,Just remember that he is six and don't expect to much of him .Short trips would be better than all day outings . I started when I was about that age and loved it .

The fellows are right here 6 is not to young , taking a young one out to enjoy the Outdoors is what it is all about. One of the main things is Patients, keeping in mind everything is new to the young one. let them sit between your legs when setup , this way you can keep some control and exsplain to them what is going on.This is going to make it enjoyable to them and teach them the respct of the Outdoors. This also will add a closer bond between you and your sibling for sure...BT

I think the earlier the age, the better. Has an early start to learn about the woods, and learn about hunting. I first started going with my dad since I was 5. The first year I bowhunted (with a weapon) I shot a deer. Pays off getting a head start in knowledge of hunting.

6 is not to young if you, like the others said ,keep it short.
my son took his first deer when he was six,he will never forget it,and neigther will I.
take him and you will make memories that last forever.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

I agree with all here.Like GC its not legal to carry a firearm here until 12,but when I went coon huntin with my dad he let me shoot his pistol at em quite often.Dad was carrying me on his shoulders chasin coons when I was 4 or 5 and i still remember some of those nights. And yes the bond developed over those years is unbreakable!Take your kids with you, because in the end you wont regret it!! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
