Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

OK I' ll fess up---a little---even though it appears that there are plenty out there that haven' t yet. On my longest shot (yes I grossly misjudged the distance---but it was only my second bird) I quit counting at 65 steps (OK maybe a little more than that).

Mossberg 835---Hastings Choke---Winchester 3.5 HV #4' s. Rolled the bird.

I was planning to get the bird when he got to a stick at 25 yards. after a half hour of strutting, he hung up at 47. either take him or leave him. decoy got 27 pellets, but the bird DROPPED like a rock.

My Longest Shot was 43 yards - this last season. My dad and I had set up on 3 birds, 2 came in (Jakes) and he took one, afraid that the other was going to take off, I took the other one before he could come in any closer...

My closest shot, 6 paces. Was my first Tom, he was coming up a hill, I was 11, and not wanting to mess up, miss the bird, etc... I let him come in as close as i could without him walking into the barrel of my shotgun. I was one happy camper; so was my Dad! [:-]

My longest shot has been 17 yards. I guess mainly because where I hunt they have to be with in 25 yards to even venture a shot. The one I got this past spring was 6 steps. the year before was 8 steps and the one the year before that was 7 steps. The 17 yard one was my first bird. Pat.

I took a long 55 yarder a few years ago and vowed never to do that ever again!! I almost lost that bird if I didn' t get to it that fast!! I had to shoot once again to finish him off. Lesson learned on that hunt, get them in closer and take the sure thing!!

My longest shot was 35 yards the gun will shoot a lot farther but i want a sure kill to many crippled birds left every year to suffer if I can' t guarantee a sure kill I go back the next day and try him again. If I don' t get him he' ll just be breeding stock for future flocks.

Rem. 870 #5 shot extra full turkey choke

My longest was probably in the 35-40 yard range. I don' t like taking shots at turkeys at ranges much farther than that. It' s a lot more fun to call ' em in close! Like YB 76 said, if you can' t get them to come closer than that, wait for another day and don' t risk crippling and losing a longbeard.
