RE: Longest shot
Around 50 yds. in my early days with my double barrel side by side 10 ga. That was using both barrels too (tripping both triggers at the same time). Those long distance shots usually result in a chase and a wrestling match[&:]
I NEVER take long shots anymore---he' ll be around tomorrow ar maybe later in the morning. Just be patient and you will will kill more toms at a reasonable range.
This year I' m going to try Remington' s " Hevi-Shot" for those birds that are out there around 30-40 yds...also considering adding quality sights to my double (I suspect that I' m not getting the most out of what my 10 ga. can do.)

RE: Longest shot
I'm usely good at judging distance, but the longest shot I've done was in Fort Hood TX. With a forum member from here ,we set up in a Christmas tree farm and called a couple of longbeards and hens in. As the birds walked inbetween the trees coming our way, I lost the judge of distance and tried the shot. The birds all flew and after passing it was near 65 yards , way too far to shoot. I was embarassed of the shot , and will never shot at another untill I know its in range. Some of these long shots that are done ,if you note is with #4-#5 shot, A pellet size that has energy a little farther out, I just wonder how many hunters that shoot #6 shot, have the birds get away out at these ranges?...BT

54 yards for me. Thought the bird was closer then he actually was.Took that bird with 1 shot, but now I put a couple of makers out at 40 yards if time allows me to do so.The 54 yarder was in an open field.

RE: Longest shot
My longest shot at a turkey? 15 yards. My shortest? 7 yards.
Of course thost two shots are the extent of my turkey killing so far...
I'm hoping to add to list this season. Heck, I may venture out and shoot at a bird that's a full 30-35 yards away next spring!

RE: Longest shot
First thing.Nice job triplespool.
My farthest shot was this past spring.I shot a jake at roughly 60 yards, give or take a couple yards.I used a Remington 1187 supermag with a Hevi-shot .665 choke and Remington 3" #6 Hevi-shot.My second longest was 55 yards with my Winchester 1300 using a Hastings .665 choke and Winchester HV 3" #6.Some people say #6 won't kill a turkey past 40 yards.I have got 3 past 40.
