I would'nt say it's better to hunt them in the rain but it is a good time to hunt them as long as it's not pouring down. They do tend to move out on the edges or in the middle at times of a field when the rain messes with their hearing in the forest. I prefer a cool sunshine loaded day with no wind to speak of as far as weather goes when hunting. If it's not real hot I'll take some warmth before wetness any day,but you just have to be willing to go out in what ever they live in and find them. They go on doing what they do regardless of the weather and we must do the same and adjust our tacticts accordingly.

I do not find it any better at all. I actually find it worse hunting on a wet rainy day with the wind blowing. Turkeys will not answer to any calls at all for me. A calm brisk morning appears tp work much better. I do see some turkeys during a rainy day but not nearly as many. We have had a lot of rain this spring and I do not feel the hens have gone to nest very good. This is making it harder to get the toms out. I have been seeing a few however. Take this morning (which is all we can hunt here) I saw a total of nine birds covering close to 68 miles of field. Normally on a calm day you can see thirty to fifety birds. I am not the only one finding this out either as hunting has been tough to say the least. Once we get a calm enough day I am planing on setting up 15 to 20 yards in the woods along this route. That should help me get a tom to come along. So I am hopeing this coming Friday or Saturday will be decent days.

Did you call loud enough? It's hard for them to hear in the rain.

I sure did call loud enough. I use a box caller, a slate call, as well as an electronic caller and nothing would work. All this rain has put a damper on things here. From what I have seen for forcasted weather up here it most likely will not be much better until Monday. I will be back on my night shifts then so I will be hunting in the mornings that week for sure. That is unless I can tag a tom again before during this weekend.

I wish I had another chance to go get one. It closed the 15th in TN. And weather should actually be decent this coming weekend. Oh well...

I love hunting in the rain. The birds aren't as vocal, but you know they'll move down into green fields and open areas in the woods to feed. An added benefit in my part of the country is the rainy weather keeps the other hunters in their dry houses.
