Default Best chalk for box calls??

I just took delivery of a Cut-N-Paddle by American Friction the other day. It came chalked from the callmaker, Bruce Wurth, who tunes them before sending them out. He had used white chalk so I called him and asked what kind of chalk he recommended. His answer was a large white stick similar to the size of a child' s sidewalk chalk, about 4" long. He said it was called " railroad chalk" or " construction" chalk and could be found in places like hardware stores. He said to stay away from the colored camo chalk. I can' t seem to find anything like it where I live but am going to look at a Lowe' s store tomorrow. What kind of chalk do the rest of you use on your box and boat paddle calls??

I agree with Mr. Wurth. The colored chalks with the exceptions of a few like the ones he mentioned have grease in them. Right now I' m using some chalk from a call maker who sales this which came with a call. I also have some left of my contractors chalk.

I use carpenter' s chaulk which is hard to find.I found some in an old time harware store. Most times it comes in a half moon shape solid block.Great stuff with no oil.Got the idea long ago from a book by Ben Rogers Lee.Word of caution though,I only ever saw it in blue,so if you use it in turkey think safety.

I found some of the " railroad chalk" that Bruce Wurth told me about the other day. I was able to find it at a Westlake Hardware store. I believe it was 29 cents per stick. It is his chalk of choice for his calls. I chalked up the Cut-N-Paddle with it and it sounds awesome! Got about 10 days to go before I can try it out on the real thing!
