Decoy Help???
#1
This weekend is opening weekend and I'm very green at turkey hunting.I've went just a couple times but I am getting the bug lately and really want to bag one this year.I'll be hunting a field and see turkeys in it pretty often.Lately I've been getting two gobblers on trail camera together and me and my buddy arehoping to get a double if given the opportunity. We've been watching the turkeys lately and have'nt seen any strutting. My question is aboutmy decoy set-up.I just bought B-Mobile and I have a hen.My plan was too put them out together but I was wondering if that would be the wrong thing to do since I have'nt seen any struttin. How should I set them up? Any other help on the decoys would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

My experience has been that unless one of the Toms are dominant, or they are following hens that are interested in your B-Mobile (never used one, I use a jake) they will hang up about 50-60 yards.
Sometimes the hens will come over to check out the tom/jake decoy and bring toms with them.
After all the birds I've had hang up on me I went to just using one or two hens. Seems to get me better results.
If you are going to use the B-Mobile I would set them up within a foot or two of each other to see if you can make that dominant tom mad.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

If you have them on camera and they are fairly consistent, just hunt them like deer with no decoys. They do follow a pattern sometimes and come out into a field the same place everyday sometimes. Not always.
But if you do see a pattern use itto your advantage.I have shot numerous turkeys this way.

Decoys can be a blessing and then not!
I have used a strutin tom decoy I made - he information above is correct - don't beleive all with that cd that came with your decoy!
Yes I have seen that work - and then I have had them stop just out of range never to return.
So experiment.
I am a right hand shooter so place my decoys off to my left for my safety. I try to palce them no more than 10-12 yards from where I sit. I try to place them sothey lookk natural. For a strutting Tom and if you know mating behavior the hen lays down to be bred. I do place a decoy flat on the ground the hen in front of the Tom.
but experiement and you will see sometimes they come right in and then other times they see them and go away!

well if the birds arn't strutting, that you know of it, i'd set up a lonesome hen. that seems to work pretty good. the toms will see she's by herself and they'll want her to join, if their together when they see it they might go from best friends to worst enemies. but set her up facing you or slightly turned. cause if the birds come in they'll wanna approch from behind.
But if the are struting set the hen up facing you again at about 15-20yds. then the b-mobile a few yds closer and facing away. if there is two of them then they'll really get agressive. but if the b-mobile might scare them away, cause i've heard and experienced birds do this cause it scares them off cause the fann might be too big. so just be careful.
