If you are fairly new to the turkey calling, I would stay with what has been stated thus far. Use simple basic calls clucks, purrs, and yelps. Try to make the turkey do most of the calling....call enough to let him know you are there and interested.
Do not call too loud, turkeys hear well. When you are in a room talking to someone your voice is at a level for them to hear well...do the same with turkeys.
No need to call if they are in sight and coming..this will only give away your location...After they are in sight only call if they start to lose interest and "Skirt your location"..then just enough to get them back on course often a cluck will do. When they are in range and you want them to raise their head high for a good still shot and to keep pellets out of the body a simple low cluck with a mouth call is all it takes....
