Multiple Spurs?
#1
A buddy of mine showed me a picture of a turkey with multiple spurs that he had shot in years past,
I have also heard of a few instances on the internet.
What would be a cause of a tom having multiple spurs?
I think its just an abnormality/deformity in the turkey, But my buddy things it has to do with mineral consumption, Im stumped!

I think you are on the right track on it being just an abnormity. It may be some what genetic but Im not sure. I watched a special from the NWTF and they talked about turkey abnormaties and I remember them talking about birds having multiple spurs.

I'd say it's the turkeys genetics, causing the abnormalities(double spurs) IMO.
Also it said this in the turkey hunting section, (Due to weird genetics, the odd tom has no spurs or 2 spurs on one leg).
