Default Nitro Heavy Shot Is The Best!

HEAVY SHOT HAS CAUSED SOME SCORING IN BARRELS. IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE HEAVY SHOT YOU SHOULD BUY THE SHELLS FROM NITRO COMPANY ON THE INTERNET. THEY WILL ALSO BE SELLING THEM AT THEIR BOOTH AT THE NWTF CONVENTION NEXT WEEK. THET ARE EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT. THEY COAT THE SHOT WITH SOMETHING BEFORE LOADING AND IT WILL PREVENT SCORING. REMINGTON IS STARTING TO DO THIS BUT I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE PUT IT ON THE MARKET YET. ALSO NITRO ONLY RECOMMENDS THAT YOOU USE A RHINO CHOKE WHEN USING HEAVY SHOT. AGAIN, THEY ARE EXPENSIVE ALSO BUT WORTH IT. $80 FOR A RHINO CHOKE / $45 FOR A BOX OF TEN SHELLS. NOW HOLD ON TO YOUR BOOTS HERE. AT 40 YARDS IN A 10" CIRCLE YOU WILL AVERAGE BETWEEN 170-200 BB'S. THAT IS GUARANTEED! THAT IS AWESOME! YOU JUST TELL THEM WHAT TYPE GUN YOU USE AND THE HAVE THE BEST CHOKE AND LOAD FOR THAT GUN TO GET THOSE RESULTS. IT WILL COST YOU ABOUT $4 PER SHOT. THAT IS ABOUT WHAT YOU PAY FOR ANY DECENT RIFLE SHELL YOU WILL DEER HUNT WITH. $15 ANYTIME YOU RELEASE YOUR BOW. IT IS WORTH IT. YOU CAN AND WILL KILL A TURKEY GRAVE YARD DEAD AT 70 YARDS USING NITRO AMMO HEAVY SHOT WILL A RHINO CHOKE. NO KIDDING. I HAVE SEEN TURKEYS ON FILM SHOT AT 45 YARD THAT WERE KNOCKED FOR A FLIP. THE PENETRATION IS INCREADABLE. YES, IT IS EXPENSIVE. BUT ISN'T ANY MAN TOY THAT WE WANT.

I bet "Bear Bryant" would have been a "Turkey Hunting Warrior!"

Does it kill a turkey any deader at 40yds. than any other brand that we use?I don't think killing a turkey at 70 yds. is anything to brag about.Just my opinion.

I most definately agree Wacker!!No question drg the evolution of our gear such as heavishot is going to be the wave of the future!Looking for new innovations and new equipment that works afield is alot of the fun of the sport and in many instances can give us the edge! But with that said we all have our own ideas and opinions on what really gives us a real high when we take to the turkey woods! For some, success means hauling a gobbler over there shoulder everytime they take to the turkey woods and would argue to the bitter end thats what they are out there for!No question I was like this in my younger days and certainly would have no ill feelings towards those who spend alot of time and money towards that end!!But for myself the challenge of locking horns with a gobbler and fooling him in close,is what thrills me the most!Fooling a big longbeard in close gives the hunter an opportunity to test his woodsmanship and put his ability to put his equipment to use afield!TO MANY, hunters today are relying more on guns and loads that can reach out there and touch ole longbeard at incredible distances and imho this is getting further and further away from putting a hunters skills to the test!We all would admit field gobblers are tough to hunt.I guess this is the way most our going to solve the problem by extending there gun range.I've said this before but if loads and scatter guns keep heading in this direction,we all might as well just put the scatter gun down and pick up our rifle to turkey hunt!!!Not trying to start a war,and most definately to each his own!And I am an avid advicate of heavi-shot in the duck and goose blind because theres no question the difference between steel and heavi-shot spells less cripples. But I'll stick to fooling them in close in the wild turkey world because having a big ole gobbler gobble in your face is an absolute rush!!The challenge, and watching a plan come together to that end is what works for me !!!For what its worth! Lets not forget how dangerous it is to be taking shots past 40 yards in the turkey woods. DRG it is hard to identify your target at those ranges sometimes. Think about it dude!!!

They can`t ship to Canada so I guess the turkeys around here will have to just put up with getting killed by winchester, federal and remington. I do have one question, if they put 200 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards wouldn`t a 15 yard shot be easy to miss?

As far as what wacker, Bob, Mr. Longbeard and Turk Man have to say, all I can add to it is AMEN!! Turkey hunting to me is and always will be a close encounter, in your face type of hunting. I'm personally not looking for anything to reach out to 70 yds. to kill a turkey. If this is what you are after, then you are missing the whole point of tukey hunting IMO. Just my 2 cents worth.

what a waste of money...80bux for a choke 90 for shells..first 10 to shoot next 10 to hunt...that outrageous...and at 15yds you might at well throw a brick becuase it will have the same effect and be just as hard to hit it...past 50yds the pellets dont have enough energy to do enough damage even with a tight pattern...its usless stuff just to make money....i will stick with my remington nitro buffered mags(not even real turkey loads!!) and my extended remington extra full choke that came with the gun and save 100s of dollars and get the thrill of having turkeys walk within yards of me...if i want to shoot turkeys far away i have rifles!!..thats my thoughts on that stuff

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against anybody that uses Hevi Shot for getting tighter patterns. I just disagree with the idea of using it to be able to shoot turkeys past 40-45 yards.

I think some you guys here missed duckriver's whole point. It doesn't appear he was starting a range controversy by informing us of a good ammunition company, and its load capabilities. Plane, and simple just because you find a good load, and it patterns great doesn't mean anyone has to shoot a turkey out beyond your ethical distances or especially when unsafe. I thought duckriver was just passing on a good ammo for all of us to know. I personally know what duck is speaking about because I shoot what many would consider an average turkey gun. I purchased some Nitro shot last spring, and I got 35 pellets in the head, yes the head, not in circle at 40yds. That is remarkable considering best I could do before was 9-12 in the head @ 25yds. So instead of bashing a guy for a sentence in his info, look at the intent please.

I agree, with Buckalley. He was just informing us on how well they pattern. I also agree about the distance of the shot as well that the others have mentioned. What &quot;I'm&quot; trying to do here is get the tightest dam pattern I can attain with my gun. Some of you know how I feel about Nitro loads, and I think that this hevishot stuff will be the pellet of choice for us turkey hunters in the future!! Once more companies start making it the actual price of this stuff will come down!! So far Nitro company hit on the right formula and choke to make this stuff sing!! I have a scope on my turkey gun, and if I can get a super tight pattern at 40-45 yards by using this ammo, that will make up for bad range estamation along with a more sure kill!! I don't advocate taking long shots at gobblers for the sake of wounding or loosing them. But if your gun can put over 200 pellets inside of a 9&quot; circle at 40 yards, think of how many turkeys that you could of taken, but knew your pattern wasn't up to it at that range and had to let them walk!!!! I'm after a nice longbeard or two each spring, and if this load and choke gives me the confidence to get the job done, so be it!! I'm very selective on which bird I pull the trigger on, hence jakes are very safe around me!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
