Nitro results...

I gave a friend of mine 2 3.5" 4x5x7 Hevishot Nitro's to try in his Browning Gold with Kicks .675 and at 40 yards he counted 326 pellets in the magical 10" circle. Why do I shoot Nitro's? That's why.:D

Well, I don't have the heart to cut one up, but I've heard that there is somewhere around 550-600 hevishot pellets in a 3.5" 4x5x7 2.25 ounce load. That's a hell of a payload!

That's a hell of a dent in the pocket book. Just can't justify buying Nitros when I can kill just as many with Rem. hevi shot mags or Rem. HD's. That does sound pretty awesome at 40 yards though, just not necessary. Looks like it's a dead turkey for you past 30 yards. Under that you better be right on him. If he moves just a little you may miss with that tight ofa pattern.

Congrats Sonny! I have a feeling you will call him right into your lap though!:D

That is a great pattern for sure!

Ya know, I thought the same thing when I was first getting started in this sport. "I'll never pay that much for ammo!", were my exact words. Then I finally tallied up how much I'd actually spent when I was in the process of patterning my gun. I'd go buy a couple of boxes of shells and then I bought a couple of chokes and before I realized it, I was well over the cost of Nitro's and I still wasn't at the level that Nitro's perform at.

I'd recommend to anyone just getting started in this sport that instead of trying to find that magic shell/choke combination that all of us strive for, and admit it or not, costs more than we should really be spending, just go to the Nitro site and take advantage of their hard work in testing shell/choke combinations. In the long-run, I'll guarantee you'll save money and time. So, to me, Nitro's are worth every penny.

Yeah Willie, the final piece of the puzzle has fallen into place I believe. I have the best ammo and I know I have the best calls!;)

Well, I don't want to try the nitros. If they perform that good I'll become addicted and have to pay the high price;).

But what do they do at 50 feet?

I'm kind of thinking of going back the other way this spring. I'm over shooting birds at distances beyond 45 yards. I'm turkey hunting... not turkey shooting. Every single bird I have ever missed has been inside of 15 yards.... where my pattern is about the size of a dixie cup top. At 25... it will still take a birds head OFF. At 40 yards... the 10" circle count on my Winchester Elite E.R. HD 2oz #6s is in the 190s. Which is really really good for any turkey gun.

That Nitro with over 300 in a 10" at 40 is world class. My shells only have about 420 pellets in them (2oz of #6 HDs). I thought that Hevi-shot and Win Extended Range HD were the same weight... but I guess not if there are 500-600 pellets in a 2 1/4oz load of 4x5x7.
