I haven't been able to get the pattern from him but let me say this, at 20 yards it looks as if someone threw a baseball at the paper with just a few fliers about 10" from the center. I have absolutely no doubt that at 20 yards you'll take a turkeys head completely off with this load.

How much did the stuff run you for a box? How many shells are in the box?

Ok, first, sit down. :D A box (25 per) of 12 guage 3.5" 4x5x7's will run you $150. I realize that this is the absolute most money that I've ever paid for any kind of ammo but when you factor in that once you've bought it, unless you shoot 10 turkeys per year, this stuff should last me for 3 years (averaging 8 shots per year, which is a lot of shooting for me!). $50 per year isn't so bad when you think about it that way. You can also but a box of 5 or 10 as well if you don't want to spring for an entire box.

A box of 25 Nitro 3" shells will set you back a cool $100.00!! But that was a couple year's ago price, they may cost you more now!![:-]

i have a question. have you shot those nitros at a turkey target taped to a phone book at 40 yards. try that and tell me if your still impressed. i have killed them at 40plus with nitros but after a friend had me do that i realized it was more luck than shot.it looks devastating on paper but there is to much small shot to go but a page or two into the book. try it. you still might like them, but i want more down range energy...............tony

Shoot buckshot then. Have you shot your favorite load at a phone book? What were the results? If Nitros weren't what they're cracked up to be I believe their cover would've been blown long ago. A #7 hevishot pellet has just as much "down range energy" than a #5 lead pellet. What's not to like about that? Shoot a smaller pellet so you'll have more pellets in the shell, but get the same energy as a lead pellet that's 2 sizes bigger! That's a win/win in my book.

Here's another experiment for you to try: Take a knife and try stabbing it through the phone book. Won't go very far into the book will it? Now, do you think you could be able to stick that same knife through your hand? Of course you could. Fortunately for us, we're not hunting phone books, but birds that are made of flesh and blood, just like your hand.

i'm not knocking them, i use them in my 20 ga. however, people take the hype and expect to be able to shoot 50/60+ yards. some can- but not me.there are more and more new comers to our sport and most don't understand about poi and downrange energy and holes in patterns. just trying to help with the discussion.hundreds of birds have been killed by someone waking up one morning and decided they want to turkey hunt, run down to walmart, buy shells and go. hundreds of birds have been missed or wounded doing the same thing.and i have shot the 12 ga into a phone book. #5 hevi went about 1/4 deeper than most of the nitros. not all but most, the #4's sank just as much if not a page or 2 more.they are a great shell. worth every penny to a turkey hunter..............tony
