HELP: question about building friction calls
#1
Guys,
I'd l;ke to build a friction call for my own use. I don't neccessarily need to make my own pot, but have 2 questons about building the call
1. Do I always need to use multiple glass in the pot or
is one piece (the top one)sufficient?
2. How can I apply graphics under the glass?
Thanks to anyone that can help me

Single glass calls will work, you just have to figure out how deep to make your pot and thickness of the glass. I've only made two so far and used double. As for the graphics, You can place a sticker under the glass. Will have to check local sign shops and such to see how much it will cost ya'. Also you can go to a craft store, such as Michaels, and get an etching stencil. The stuff you use to etch though is kind of expensive, but is permanent. You can also use the spray etching which is more fragile, but if placed under the glass shouldn't be no worries. I bought a can of the spray at lowes for $3.00.

You'll find that single glass tends to be of higher pitch to almost squeeky. Double glass or even glass over slate will give you a deeper, raspier sound. The bottom glass/slate can be mounted at the bottom of the pot and an air chamber between that and the top. You can be creative and leave a hole on the bottom making your call a glass on top and flipped over for a slate.
Again, decaling, painting or eching, you can produce some really unique calls.
