Q's on friction calls
I needs to get some more sandpaper for my friction calls and I need to know what grit to get? When i do sand it down then should go crossways or sand the same way? also is it better to sand the whole call or leave some partially sanded for different sound maybe? Thanks

Pursuit-you did't say what kinda friction calls. On my slates/boxes-I use scouring pads,I lightly sand one direction, when calling I "strike across the grain".with my glass I use a abrasive stone, calling same as above.Boxes-I lightly sand with the scouring pads then rechalk. I pick up the pads on the isle that has dishwashing products.I hope this helps. Good Hunt'n

ohh sorry, sorry....I was mainly talking about my primos alumislate. That tip on the box calls was good too though! I didn't realize you would need different things for different surfaces of friction calls.

I fixed up a call conditioner by gluing some of the scouring pad material, that MuddyDuck mentioned, to a piece of medium grit emery cloth. Just take a 2" square piece and tie it to your call so it's always handy. That way you can change material to get the texture you want.

Aluminum is harder to cut than slate. I like a piece coarse drywall screen myself. Sand back and forth in a horizontal direction to give the surface a "grain" like effect. Then run the striker down across the "grain" making small ovals. Do not lift the striker from the surface of the call.
