thanks guys for your feedback. I went to GM tonight and I have to say Im quite impressed with the Benelli Nova pump gun. Price seems ok, im just not sure if I care for the sights. I liked how the Mossberg has the rifle style sights versus the benellis waterfowl style sights.

I have one of the original 870 Express guns, I love it. That being said, the 28" barrel plus an extended choke is a bit much for the turkey woods. I'm going to pick up my friends lightly used 835 and check out a shorter, lighter gun for this upcoming season.

I ended up buying the Super nova now I need to find out what load I should shoot ( lead or hevishot) and then choose a choke.

My Benelli with Winchester #4 -3 inch - 3.5 was a waste of money - patterned real nice and I added a Hastings 0.663 choke.

I tried heavy shot and was not impressed.

But you will want to try different loads and establish you Maximum yardage. Just my opinion though - anything over 40 yards - well you are missing what turkey hutning is really about. Call the bird up close and personal!

Am proud to say to date - for the number of birds I have taken - my average is 22 yards.

What do you do if a gobbler plays hard to get and will only come into 35-40 yards??? Do you just lethim walk or do you take him???

I hunt Pressured Gobblers... And like I've said before... These birds are tough!!! I cant take a chance on playing aroundhopeing he will come into 20 yards and let me get that so called "close shot" that you talk about...

If a gobbler is coming in and he looks like he's not on full alert, then I'll keep a bead on him and let him come closer... but 90% of the time there on full alert and looking hard for the hen makeing the calls... If he is in range and I've got the shot I take it...

SOUNDS LIKE MINE AND YOUR TURKEYS ARE A LOT DIFFERENT

I think Mossberg makes a nice gun, however, I personally cannot stand the rattling pump action. The Binelli Nova has the same problem.
You want to talk about rattle I have an old Mossberg 500 from the early 1970's, back when they only had one slide rail.

I had a Moss 835 Ulti-Mag and I didn't like it very much. I sold it and got the Remington 870 SPS-T with thumbhole and I love the gun. The Remington 870 is the most popular selling shotgun. Definitely take a look at the thumbhole stocks...they cost a little more, but I think that they are worth it in my opinion. I am glad that I got rid of the Moss and got a Remington instead. Both good guns, but I prefer the Remington.
