RE: Turkey mouth call HELP PLZ!
Jjoel, welcome to the forum, one thing to remember is you dont have to be hell bent on being diaphragm specific when it comes to turkey calls. There are many, many good turkey hunters who run a slate,or scratch a box, that can fool any longbeard in the turkey woods. For most turkey hunters new to the sport most of us here would suggest starting out on a friction call of some type.Personally I would suggest a slate, because of its versatility to produce almost all turkey talk, and simply its easier to make a quality sound for a beginner. You'll find that even the mouth callers of today never abandon a friction call in the woods, most of us all carry a few to the woods with us and often times use them in conjunction with our mouthcalls.
Videos are a great tool in giving you an idea what to expect when you take to the woods and the video ctwny1 mentions is terrific!Waltor and Chris are two of the finest hunters in the business and Waltor is the best turkey caller I've ever had the priveledge to hear and compete against!IMHO, Denny Gulvas Produces the best videos I've encountered so far,his videos put you out in the woods in a real"one on one"duel with a gobbler in many different situations.HS's has a very good video out called "So you want to be a turkey hunter"that covers about all the basics that new turkey hunter needs to know! Finally if I could make one suggestion to new turkey hunter beyond all the equipment involved is get out to the woods and scout your area you intend to hunt. You can be the most equipped turkey hunter in the field but if your set-up in a spot the birds cant get too,or theres no birds there, than you've wasted alot of time and money.Hope it helps and good luck Bob... P.S. check out WWW.WingSupply.com or www.midwestturkeycall.com both have about all the equipment you'll ever need to take to the turkey woods!
