Yep TE these birds are about 15 minutes from home here in N.Calif.99% of our birds, particularly in the valley where I hunt are what we call Calif hybrids. They are all crosses between merriams and rios. When the DFG transplanted birds here in the late 60's theyreleased merriams at the higher landelevations and rios on the valley floor. My home sits at about 330 elevation but I have the coastal mt range to my west and the sierra nevadas to my east,in fact I can look out my front window to the top of Mt Lassen which is better than 8000 ft elevation wise.Over the years these birds have crossed without hesitation,so you may harvest one that looks rio but was standing right next to his brother that looks merriam....Bob..
