Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Ubetcha on the Turkey fever!!I couldn't believe it happened over a turkey , but it certainly did. My first bird was a jake in the 2001 season. When I seen him coming out of the bush from behind , I started to shake. When I seen he was walking right into my shotgun bead , I couldn't breath. I bet my face was purple by time I pulled the trigger!!

For me there is no comparison. I've only turkey hunted for 2 years and got my first gobbler last year. Now I deer hunt just to pass the time so I dont go insane waiting on turkey season!!!

Let me be one from the "Darkside". To me there's nothing like a whitetail. I've been turkey hunting for 25 years. If you've never been sitting there in the pre-dawn gloom listening to a bunch of gobblers sound off you haven't lived. If you haven't outsmarted a smart old bird you haven't lived. If you haven't watched him come gobbling and struttin' in you haven't lived. They just RATTLE the whole countryside....... I love it.... but they're not a whitetail IMO. AND... they don't eat nearly as well either. In fact... I try to give every one I shoot away.

My two big loves are spring turkey hunting and fall bowhunting for deer. Now I get just as big a rush doing both, but spring gobblers are like an obsession with me!! Therefore I have to say it's a 60/40 percentage in favor with the gobblers!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

&quot;Spring Season....the Best&quot;!!!

Maytom... I agree.. spring season is the only way to go. I've never hunted birds in the fall. It seems like hunting out of season to me.

Been fortunate to do both for lets just say awhile, and the challenge of battling with a old woodwise gobbler to finally fool him to come to a your set-up is definately a heart pounding experience!Davem you can have my deer!!!Deep fried turkey as well as some other wild turkey recipes rank right at the top of my list!Break in up a fall flock can be as entertaining as many of the spring hunts I've been on too,but to each his own!!

davidmil, I have heard that a wild turkey doesn’t taste near as good as a store bought but it is my rule whatever I kill for the first time I will eat it, you have to try everything or you will never know

Oh I've tried them. I've gone through a couple different recipes, had people prepare them for me who were suppose to be Gourmet Bird cookers etc... I still prefer deer meat. I still prefer bows and arrows and whitetails.... but that's not to say I don't love turkey hunting.

Deer hunting is great and everytime I see a deer it's like the first time but... there is just something about Turkey hunting that gets me all fired up. It's kind of like a chess game. You have to figure out your opponents next move before you make your move. There is nothing like sitting there waiting for the woods to come alive on a clear spring morning and hearing that first gobble.

I think a big difference for me is that I have a little more control. If I am archery hunting and that buck is 50 yards out, there isn't much I can do to bring him in. I can scout and put myself in hopefully the right stand. But with turkeys, I can make that finally call, or scratch in the leaves. I have actually traded my gun in for a camera the last few springs. I carried my shotgun once in 4 trips last year. Just to be out there listening and working a bird for another hunter is awesome. I've already got that itch to be out there working a big gobbler.
I do have to agree with davidmil about the taste, nothing like a good steak.
