Remington 11-87 or 870???
Now I am thoroughly undecided! I want a good shotgun that I can use for turkey and deer. I could get an 11-87 for about $739 and then buy a rifled deer barrel for about $200-$400. My other option is to get the 870 for alot less and get a rifed deer barrel all for about what the 11-87 costs. What would be the best route to take? Semi-auto or pump?

get the one that feels better to you, I like the 11-87's better myself. It's all personal, I really like the feel of the auto better than the way the pump feels but both make great turkey getters!

yankee is right that price is high. you should'nt pay over $700.00 tops for the 1187auto. i have 2 buddies 1 with the 1187 and 1 with the 870. both like their guns, but me personaly i would get the 1187 because of the recoil factor.

Hey Goldie, I own the 870 3" and have nothing but great success with it, deer, bunnies, ducks and geese and even a pair of turkeys, wouldn't trade it for the semi. Chokes are the same price for them so its not really an issue, and if your worried about recoil get the smaller youths version, just as much gun without the recoil that these fellas are worried about. Get yourself to a gun shop and try one out for a fit. Have fun and shoot straight.

My vote goes to the 870. I've watched my nephew and others sit down and take their 11-87's apart at the duck lodge. Man, that's a lot of parts. I like simple.
Not sure what dobber's talking about by the youth model. The only 870 youth model I know of is the 20 ga. I assume you are wanting a 12.
If you're used to an automatic, you'll laugh at yourself some when you start to take that 2nd shot and don't get anything. "Oh yeah, I forgot to pump. du-uhr!" But it will soon be second nature and you won't even realize you've pumped it.

I know this wasn't a choice, but, I bought an 835 Ulti-Mag for around $430.00. Holds the 3 1/2" shells, and some come with 3 different choke tubes. Mine also came with a sling. I bought a 870 Express, 20 gauge, with a 21" barrel for my wife. Had her camo it out. It has killed many turkeys in the last 5 years. I like carrying it when I have to hunt back-up when I take someone out to call for them. But, the Ulti-Mag will really reach out and touch'em if you get the right choke for it! Kicks a little, but I have yet to feel it when I am lined up on a big tom!

I like the 870. A lot of guys seem to concern theirselves with recoil. With Turkey and Deer hunting, your usually only going to take one shot. I can handle any recoil once or twice. Weight is a bigger factor for me. If I'm going to spend all morning carrying a shotgun, I want the lighter pump. Now, for duck-hunting, that's when you need less recoil.

Recoil is not a factor for me, I am more concerned with versatility of a gun. I can get the 11-87 and with the change of a choke or barrel I can have a great turkey, deer and duck gun. I am getting it in Mossy Oak camo so I believe that is why the price is a bit higher. Thanks for all of the input guys.
