I have already posted on here about a merriam hunt. I have had a lot of nice hunters trying to help me out and I appreciate the help alot. I was really wondering if anyone from Nebraska had any private land that they would let me hunt on. I am an avid turkey hunter(turkey hunting is the ultimate sport) with a lot of experience hunting easterns in Missouri. I have always wanted to take a merriam turkey, my have great hunting ethics, and only take a shot If I am positive I can make a clean kill. I use, in my opinion, the ultimate shotgun for tukeys, the Mossberg 835 3-1/2 inch 12 ga. I have hunted for about 15 yrs, and have only missed a very few birds, and have taken alot of nice gobblers. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Wow ! you get right to the point ! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Why don't you put in for the Black Hills in SD and hunt that for Merriams. Its not that hard if you have the exsperence you have. If want to see what a dumb Canadian can do there on his own, I can post Photos for you. NE ,is hard to gain access unless you hunt Public...BT

Boy if it was next spring I would tell you to put in for the early or late shotgun season and if you got drawn, I'd put you on a few Nebraska Merriams. However this spring is going to be hard for me to get out myself and I've also got two other hunting partners that expect to be behind my blind a few times too. I also hunt a not well known public spot that is crawling with turkeys. You can browse my turkey pictures of those blonde tailed birds.

I would recommend posting on Nebraska's Game and Parks forum just as you did here.

Sorry bosstom, but I am really trying hard to get something going for this spring. I have got the fever already, and finnaly have a little extra cash to take a trip out of state. I realy appreciate the reply Lefty, and wish you had more time to hunt this spring. If something would happen to come up just let me know, and you would be more than welcome to come to Missouri, I hunt on my uncle's farm of 220 acres where there is some really good eastern birds at. I will take your advice and post something on Nebraska's game and parks forum, and see what happens. Again thanks

Well it looks like you got a few bites on the NGPC site. I would not leave out Bosstom's suggestion of hunting the Black Hills in SD. Boy is that the best looking country around and have pure merriams running around.
Also understand that they did a lot of transplanting of different subspecies here in Nebraska so if you want a true merriam you might have to go more northwest. Personally I can't tell much of a difference between the Rio Grande and Merriam so I have no idea what I've been shooting the last few years. I thought the ones I was seeing with darker cream colored tails were an eastern-merriam hybrid and the light cream colored tails were merriams. I totally forgot they transplanted rio's here too. Maybe someone who knows by just looking at pictures can browse my pictures and tell me what they think I've been shooting.
tohottie, if you're just wanting something different, by all means come to Nebraska and have yourself a ball. If you want a specific subspecies, I have no idea how you can clearly identify a subspecies here with all the transplanting we did in the past.
