RE: nebraska bird hunting
Well it looks like you got a few bites on the NGPC site. I would not leave out Bosstom's suggestion of hunting the Black Hills in SD. Boy is that the best looking country around and have pure merriams running around.
Also understand that they did a lot of transplanting of different subspecies here in Nebraska so if you want a true merriam you might have to go more northwest. Personally I can't tell much of a difference between the Rio Grande and Merriam so I have no idea what I've been shooting the last few years. I thought the ones I was seeing with darker cream colored tails were an eastern-merriam hybrid and the light cream colored tails were merriams. I totally forgot they transplanted rio's here too. Maybe someone who knows by just looking at pictures can browse my pictures and tell me what they think I've been shooting.
tohottie, if you're just wanting something different, by all means come to Nebraska and have yourself a ball. If you want a specific subspecies, I have no idea how you can clearly identify a subspecies here with all the transplanting we did in the past.
