I'm in Ironranger's camp. Here in WI we get get the big winter flocks too. In a couple of weeks, they'll start dispursing for miles around. You'll probably have some birds, but not that many. Around here, it doesn't pay to scout untill the winter flocks break up.

It doesn't pay to scout? Nah... It always pays to scout. Just being there and seeing them is enough to get the excitement up. I scout deer and turkeyyear round. Mainly so I can understand their patterns, mannerism. I have learned an awful lot too. I can look at the body language and get a pretty good idea what they are going to do.
If ya need any help thining out that flock, ya might want to call in some reinforcements...

Nice flock Hoytteen. Seeing that you are in Michigan and you are hunting in May most hens should be tending by then. The Toms will be mostly alone and still looking for a stray hen to breed. You shouldn't have any problems with calling and some decoys. Definitely try some hen decoys.
What hunt do you have?

After further thought. Try to call the hens a few days and if you are not having much success in getting them to bring in the Toms you can try this. I had only read about until I tried it in Nebraska last year and it was awesome. Find where they are gathering in the evening. Get as close as you can without alerting them. Then run light a wild crazy man at them flushing them in all different directions. What you are doing is breaking up the flock. They'll roost seperated and in the morning, try to put yourself in the middle of where all the birds flew. When the sun comes up, they will try to gather back up together, leaving you in the middle. If you do some aggressive yelping, you should be able to get some birds to come in, hopefully bringing the Toms. I did it twice in Nebraska and killed birds both times. It sounds crazy, like I thought when I read about it, but it worked for me............. Good luck.
