RE: Team 3 "Grave Diggers"
Greg - I might just hog-tie the boy, stuff him in the trunk, steal his tags and shotgun, and head up over the hill.
When we get home, he can show everyone the turkey that "he got." Seriously though, this kid is like he's got ants in his pants. Yak Yak Yak Yak Yak... Do you like this band? Do you like that band? What's your favorite song? Where'd you get this? Where'd you get that? Can I see your cell phone? Do you have any pictures on it? Do you think we'll see any turkeys? Can I shoot at a tweety bird if we don't get a turkey? Why did you give me a 20 gauge? Can I shoot the 12 gauge? There's a kid at my school whose dad got a turkey that weighed fifty pounds. How many pounds was your biggest turkey? I got detention at school for sending text messages. Do you sent a lot of text messages? blah blah blah blah blah. |
RE: Team 3 "Grave Diggers"
Wow, I can't wait for Tuesday the 1st to come. I think I have ad my gun and calls out every night just making sure every thing is going to be ready. Since Monday I have been replacing fence at the farm so I have had the chance to sneak out on lunch break and scout a little bit. I have still seen the same toms and the one big oneI am after. They are coming out of the pasture into the corner meadow everyday in the same spot. I hope they continue this route so I can find them easier. They are also being very vocal now, but I hope this doesn't change by the opener. Does anyone think that by hearing a lot of gobbling now will change as the season opens. I have never noticed how gobbling is before season, just during it. I have built a few nice blinds in areas that I have used beofre so I can move from each one to tanother if I need. I like to have spots that I can be without having to make a quick setup. If I can use these already made hides then I wont have to worry come the opener. I hate having to scramble to get hidden when the sun breaks and birds fly down. Nothing is worse than being caught with your gun down and hands up!

RE: Team 3 "Grave Diggers"
I know this is the turkey team thread... not a deer thread... but I was sitting w/ a buddy yesterday who showed me the field journal write up on this website about his Montana Milk River hunt. They are the 2nd group of 3. I shoot archery league w/ these 3 and hunt quite a bit w/ Rick.
http://www.huntingnet.com/fieldjournal/fieldjournal_detail.aspx?nID=520 Just thougth I'd share it with you all. |
RE: Team 3 "Grave Diggers"
I always like reading Strommen's field journals - seems like a good kid, and works his butt offpreparing fordeer season. Those guys kill big deer because they know how to kill big deer - not b/c they hunt exclusive areas so thick with 150-class bucks that a 4-year old can kill a book buck.
These are thetwo kinds of whitetail "experts" - and Luke comes from the first group, which is worth a pat on the back. I don't know the guy personally, but from what I read and see, that's the impression that I get. Off-topic, but WMA - do you have any trouble with your 2" blazer vanes getting tattered from shooting through the WB. Since you shoot in league, I'm sure you shoot more than I do. So if they're not getting damaged from your use, I'm sure I'll be ok. I'm toying around with trying a WB this fall. Rybo - I'm sending you a pm. If you're lurking, just chill our for a sec. |
RE: Team 3 "Grave Diggers"
QuickSilver...
Stromann does seem like a standup kindof guy. I am actually looking into going out there and hunting in '08 or '09 w/ those guys in the story and him. I'll keep you posted on that. As far as the 2" blazers... after awhile they do seem to become brittle and will crack. I usually shoot at least 50 shots a night per league 2x per week and then another couple dozen a couple nights per week at home... Lots of shooting. They do last quite some time though. I would recommend them over vanes or feathers any day of the week. I feel they are much more durable through the WB than anything else. |
