I have them all over the place.. the weather is screwy and half the time they are silent but you just have to know that if they know a hen is there they are going to come if situation permits. I've found that with everything being as it is right now, any time around 11am-3pm while the hens are nesting you just have to let a tom know that there is still a hen to be bred just a short walk away. Both of my birds were this way, I sit on the edge of a field, start with a fairly loud set of yelps to let the birds know I was there.. and within an hour they just come charging in with their weiners out ready to hop on my decoy. I personally haven't shot a bird in the morning this year but I have taken a couple people, and scored on two gobblers this way.. ya just pretty much have to be the hen that he wants to come to off of the roost, or wait for the hens to nest. It is more fun when ya have one coming at you gobbling the whole way, but a bird is a bird none the less, and neither way is any easier than the other. Just be still, call less, and keep your eyes open and if the birds are there you will see them.

Mine (and all the other PA guys) starts Saturday, 4/28. We do have a youth hunt on the 21st, so I'll be out there with a youngster on a guided hunt. I just hope he can sit still, shut up and shoot straight. Seems simple enough, right?

I usually always hunt alone, and I know that I'll have no patience for a fidgeting kid, so we'll see how I can stand up (mentally) to a 12 year old who has never hunted before. [>:] LOL

Could be a long, aggravatingday for the Franmeister.

I feel ya Fran! I'm taking my 13yo nephew on the 21st-22nd. He is the most figity person on the face of this planet! I'm hoping I can get a jake to come in on a string for him, let him shoot it and then he can wait for me in camp!
