Well my fellow hunter's my hunt for the longbeard is over.
I'm sorry to say I walked out empty handed.
If I had used a shotgun it would have been an succesful hunt.

Hi everyone just wanted to say thanks for allowing me to be a part of team 3. I hope I can contribute with a big Tom. Our Pa season opens this Sat. and I will be hooking up next week with my longtime hunting partner ( Rob/Pa Bowyer ) to enjoy the the Turkey woods. Good luck to all and be safe.

ANOTHER BIRD FOR TEAM #3!!!!

I killed a tom in Missouri yesterday morning. I called in three toms with a hen at 915 AM. They put on one heck of a show strutting and gobbling like crazy. The new Winchester Xtend Range sure performed for me. At 42 yards he dropped like a rock. And just for good measure the other two toms put a good whooping on him after he went down. Thebird's head, neck, and chest were peppered with shot.

The bird weighed 23 lbs, 10" beard, and 1" spurs.

Can anbody tell me how the team ranks in this contest.
I hesitate to post any numbers for fear that I will offend those that are in control of the contest. It should be noted that I am in no way helping to run the contest and these numbers are totally unofficial. I tabulated them today (April 23) from the score card thread with the last entry I saw which was Goose11 I believe. Of course, some people havekilled a birdbut not posted their score so they arenot tabulated in these results.

Team 1. Six qualifiers for 363.725 points
Team 2. Six qualifiers for 333.125 points
Team 3. Three qualifiers for 214.9375 points
Team 4. Nine qualifiers for 522 points
Team 5. Three qualifiers for 195.7 points
Team 6. Eight qualifiers for 512.125 points
Team 7. Two qualifiers for 121.3125 points
Team 8. Five qualifiers for333.26 points
Team 9. Five qualifiers for 333.75 points
Team 10. Three qualifiers for 161.925 points

Put another way....Standings as of today.....

1. Team 4....522
2. Team 6....512.125
3. Team 1....363.725
4. Team 9....333.75
5. Team 8....333.26
6. Team 2....333.125
7. Team 3....214.9375
8. Team 5....195.7
9. Team 10..161.925
10. Team 7..121.3125

deeg,

You do realize, of course, that only your best bird counts towards the contest, right?

Great job...although I can't imagine how much money you've spent this turkey season...[8D]...my wife would kill me!

deeg1502 05-10-2006 12:31 PM

RE: Team #3's Official Roost

Strut&Rut I know that the best bird is the only one that counts for the team. Also, I know many great people throughout the country and I really didn't spend that much money this season due to the fact that I'm military. I met most of the people I hunt with during the many years of calling competitvely in turkey calling contest. Every where I hunted this season I really didn't spend that much money. Its a give and take kind of situation. I take many of the same friends to my place in ohio, so it goes back and forth. Next year I'm going out west. Before I die I'm going to kill turkeys in all 49 states. Hope you had a great season. GOD bless!

Thanks Antler Eater, for doing the extra work to keep the scores updated!!

I bagged my fifth and last gobbler on tuesday, may 9th. Its my best score yet. My friend and I got a double at 1230pm.

my bird was 20lbs, 11 1/4" beard, 1 1/8"spurs=65
this should raise our score to 415!!

drhntr178 05-11-2006 12:18 PM

RE: Team #3's Official Roost

Antler EaterI took the scores you posted and figured each teams average score per bird. The scores arent tallied this way but at least you can say that we're killing some dandy birds compared to the rest of the teams.

1 team 8 71.8 per bird
2 team 369.2
3 team 6 64.7
4 team 10 64.1
5 team 563.4
6 team 9 61
7 team 7 59.2
8 team 4 58
9 team 1 57.4
10 team 2 53.7

For you two that have calculated scores, try taking out the non-typical birds and see if that makes a difference.

I'm sure it will ;)

Antler Eater 05-11-2006 12:58 PM

RE: Team #3's Official Roost

drhntr178, I already had you scored for a 65 kill in our 413 score. :(:)

Our average score per bird is pretty good that is true.

Strut&Rut, no doubt you are right about the scoring and multiple bearded birds, but the rules say we score our best bird so what can I say...

Strut&Rut 05-11-2006 02:05 PM

RE: Team #3's Official Roost

Antler,

Yeah, I know. I questioned Pat about that nearly a month ago, with no response. Maybe he'll make a decision about that one when he has some time, as there's been a slew of non-typical's harvested this year it seems...

Last year I think Pat actually had multiple categories, with "most birds" and "best average", if I remember correctly...

Only 6 guys on our team have connected? Pick it up you guys...;)

deeg1502 05-11-2006 04:08 PM

RE: Team #3's Official Roost

It would be nice if I we could count all turkeys we've killed all year. So far I got seven and going to hunt in two other states before season's end. But I do agree with the non-typicals...it's a whole new category. Well, my highest was 90 something. I'll have to recheck scores in a bit. Take care and hope we all pull out on top. Maybe I can donate some birds to others on the team. Take care and I wish the best of luck to you all! GOD bless!
