Default #6 shot

I was out patterning my rem 870 today and shot rem nitro 5's and some old winchester western4's and some winchester xx magnum 6's. The 6's patterened the best at 50 yards and was wondering if the 6's pack enough punch at 50 yards to take a turkey?

Generally speaking they don't have enough energy to kill a turkey at 50 yards but I have killed one at 52 with number 6's. I guess what I'm saying is that most of the times at 50 yards they will kill them but if you know they are past 40 yards wait until they get closer.

Every turkey I've killed has been with #6 shot. That being said, I will second that you should wait until they get closer to shoot.

I use 6 shot as well only Federals. I wouldnt hesitate on a turkey at 50 yards, even though I would like them closer.

all I have ever used is Winchester #6 turkey loads.tried most all the other brands while patterning the gun and the Win. patterened best in my BPS 3".

I have taken several birds over the years at 50 yards.that is streching the barrel a little,so best to try and get them closer.as with the one's I did take they were at like a last day of the season hunts.

thats what it's all about ; "get them close".

for your question; yes it will take them if you gun patterens "GOOD" at that yardage.
