Hey I am really wanting to hunt turkeys with the bow. That's probably what I would like to get more then a deer. Although i would also love to get a deer. What would you guys recomend as far as calls and stuff go? Also how close do you think I need to get to one since I have a draw weight of 44-48lbs and I can use broadheads from 3/4" - 1 1/2". what do you guys recomend?? Thanks for any help!!!

I would at least draw in that turk to a minimum of 20 yards or less with that draw. The closer you get that turkey in, the accuracy bumps up for that vital shot to be hit. For turkey hunting, with a bow or shotgun, you need concealment, meaning camo camo camo. I would invest in a good box cutter call, and maybe a mouth call later on. If you have any left over cash, a drop blind or a full-draw blind is a very good investment, especially for beginners. I have even used colored burlap. Scout out before the season starts whereever you are, and keep a metal not on the weather patterns, ambush sites, and setups. The only other thing is to offer the advice to be Patient! Practice drawing your bow slowing with your broadheads, and practice your calls.

great advise so far....
i definitely wouldn't go over 25yds at the most...especially being new to bowhunting.
you need to practice as much as possible...daily if you have the time....even if you sling 10 arrows it's better than not at all.
like it was mentioned make sure you're fully concealed...camo everything...turkeys can see a knat land on a skeeters butt...lol....if you're gonna get a pop up make sure you practice shooting from it...trust me on that one...lol.
newbies should stay away from mouth calls (unless you're gifted from the start)...stick with a box call...or try the freak by primos...it's a good sounding first call and since it attaches to your leg there's less movement....make sure you don't call too much...probably the #1 mistake hunters make...also don't bring your calls in while scoutin'...you'll be tempted but it could totally backfire on you and blow it for the season.
and makesure you don't wear red, white, or blue...especially while huntin' on public land and during turkey season....things could get real ugly real fast.
and to re-enforce what coyotestalker said: HAVE PATIENCE!!! you'll never succeed in turkey huntin' if you don't.
best of luck to you and make sure you go to the bow forum as well...there's a lot of good advice for newbies there.

As said above, Concealment is the key with turkeys. For bow hunting them I highly recommend a pop up blind. Also were all camo, even gloves and facemasks. I'd get a box call if I was you. They are easy to use and sound great. Get a call or two soon and start practicing. Maybe get a book or video so you can see how its done. Good luck and If you have any more questions just let us know!

The birds I killed with a bow were all done with expandable broadheads and a compound bow. I use a mouth call primarily, but have an arsenal of others if the diaphrams don't work. The single biggest help is a stand that will keep your bow upright. I think the hardest part is the draw. Practice a smooth, quick draw. Here in Alabama, I have had the best luck in the big woods, letting a Tom step behind a big oak tree to draw. Good luck! There's nothing like putting one on the ground with a bow and arrow!

I agree completely with all the things the guys said above, but with you draw be sure that your bird is within 20 yards because you shouldnt wound the bird and have him suffer. Good Luck
