first i would do some scouting and find sign of some flocks.. lots of scratchings and so on..now for calls yes any calls will work, but i like to use my mouth call and do kee kee runs.. now just like Criggster said do LOTS of walking to find the flock and break them up, but i found the key is to really break them up good try and get the birds to go in every direction.. once you do that sit down and wait, normally in the early season they will start calling right after you break them up, then start calling w/ them. they should come running in.. now after they have been broke up a few times in the season it takes longer for them to start getting back together and they get more quiet so keep that in mind.. now after you break them up and u dont hear them calling id wait 10 to 20 min and start calling a little.. but if there are a lot of young birds in the flock they will be going nuts and you can also.. that should get you started, good luck to you this season.. oh by the way what state are you hunting??

PA Gobbler,
By break them up you mean run out in the field after them? Then just find a seat near where they were and wait. Then start calling. Please verify this.
Also what if I don't know the Kee Kee calls. Can I cluck, putt and pur?
Thanks
Tom

If you can't make the kee-kee try using a mouth diaphragm and saying pee-pee-pee. If that doesn't work for you use the tried and true plain ole' yelp. It has killed more birds than any other call.

How do you guys break them up? I know a guy that shoots right above them to make them scatter i know its not smart at all but he seems to get one every year. Then i know another guy the just takes off on a dead sprint right at them lol.

yes i mean run after them and bust them up.. i like to take off and scream at them, some shoot id stick w/ just yelling.. this works best if they are in the woods.. .. then pretty much right at the break up stop or close by set up... yes use the yelps and clucks, please dont putt .... now if they are ina field and you are on the woodedge and they are coming your way try just some soft calling and sometimes the flock will come to you.. but its hard to bring a big flock a long way .. now if your like out west and its mostly fields and not much cover im not too sure what to tell ya maybe just try and find out which way they are working and try and get in front of them.. i hope this helps you out

Yes it does help. Thanks
Follow-up question. Why do they come back? Why not just shoot them in the field? These questions might sound stupid but please don't give a stupid answer.
Thanks
Tom

no these questions arent stupid... they come back together cause they like being in the flock and most of the time there are a lot of young birds that really havent been apart from mom, and brothers and sisters so once they get split up from them and here some of your calls they come running in looking for you...
if you can just shoot them in the field then do it.. i think it would be a little hard to walk up on a flock of turkey in a field and shoot one, but im sure its been done.. does this help at all???
