Default Locating Roosting turkeys

Going Turkey hunting tomorrow morning. When the sky is just getting light about 30 minutes before sunrise is when I will be there. Can I locate them on the roost with a slate call and give a couple of yelps? I have a owl call but I never had anything answer it. lol

I know there are Toms around I saw one today. Will they Gobble to a slate if its still dark and they are on the roost? What is my best bet. These turkeys have not been hunted.

on the roost they will gobble on there're own most of the time.. an owl hooter will work also.. i wouldnt call too them that early in the morning.. id wait till almost light if not light.. best thing to do is go to a top of a ridge or an area you can hear good, and listen.. if u dont hear any gobbles right at light give a few soft calls on your slate.. hope this helps, and good luck hope you get one or least hear some..

Crow Calls work very Well after Light...sometimes even before, but 65-70% of the time you will hear them gobbling well after light.

Owl calls work good as do crow calls. A crow call might be your best bet. The only turkey calling you want to do this early might be a few very soft yelps if any at all. Just listen. I have never had to use a call to hear the first gobble of the morning. I have had to use one to get the birds I was hunting to start though. Good luck!
