Default D40 Flash Question

Some of the people that bought a D40 had their flash quit working on it... I was wondering how long you had it before that started happening? What climate was it in before it went out?

I've had my D40 for almost a year and the flash works great on it. It hasbeen through 100+ degrees, -20 degrees, 50 mph winds, rain and snow, and it's still working.

Is it just a malfunction or something in the camera?
