Anyone have a Moultrie I40?
#2
I'll have one tomorrow.
There is a specific Moultrie camera forum on www.chasingame.com that has all kinds of information on them.

They did have some whiteout issues and there is a software upgrade that corrects that but at the expense of causing the camera to take more IR photos so some folks are not upgrading. I'm going to set mine out as it is and see if I havea whiteout issue before upgrading the software.
The good thing about them is that they have a great trigger time (equal or better to a Cuddeback) and have amazing battery life (folks are reporting several months and 3,000+ pictures on 1 set of batteries).
For $200 they seem to be the best bang for the buck on the mid priced cameras IMO.

Ive been using one since early october,I like ita lot better than my cuddeback no flash I had. sub second trigger speed, great picture quality, and long battery life, so far 2 months on a set of batteries withlevel still at40%, its been in the 20's for highs and near 0 at night the last 2-3 weeks too, picture count is probably around 1500 or so.Be sure to do the software upgrade right away if you get one.

I have an i40 and an i60. the i40 is a much better value, i wouldn't buy another i60. they are good cameras but the ir pictures stink, any movement at all and the pictures are terribly blurry.

After my cuddeexpert took a dump and Igot the shaft fromtheir customer serviceI had to get a new one. After reading all the good reviewsI replaced my cudde with 2 I40's. Got to be honest with you I'm not a fan of the former moultrie cams but this one has definitely given me a new perspective. Got around 400 pics on each cam so farand they are rocking and rolling. Super fast trigger for day pics (dang near as fast as my cudde expert)and a very fast trigger for the IR night pics...around 1sec....alot faster than my 2 leaf river IRs. I'm very impressed with them so far. The only complaint is the 3 shot mode. I wish it was a trigger activation on the 2nd and 3rd pic instead of just a 10sec interval. Oh well...can't have the world. Still better than the single shot cudbucket. In a nut shell I like mine as much if not better than I did my cudde and it is a heck of a lot easier to program. Not that the cud was hard but I think my 4 month old could do this one.

Before I did the software upgrade I had about 10 pictures out of 400 or so that were whited out somewhat, I could still identify the deer and if it had antlers and how many points. After the software upgrade I have had 0 that were whited out, it has taken about 1200 pictures or so since. If you get one, do the upgrade, it only helps.
Here are some examples, the first pic is one of the worst "whiteouts" I had, unlucky it happened on a big deer, the second pic is what over 90% of my night pics look like, very good I think.

I've had zero white outs so far out of 800 pics between both my cams.(I say that and there will be 20 on it when I get to the camp this weekend...lol). After reading about the updates and whiteout issues I checked my codes this pass weekend. The Level2 came updated with the latest version and level 1 is not up to the latestcode that moultrie has listed on the website. 11035 vs 11037. Not sure if it has the whiteout update or not. Maybe someone can tell us if its the level 1 or 2 code.
