SD Card question
I am going to buy my first trail cam soon. I was reading that you should buy a SD Card to allow more pictures to be taken.I noticed different sizes of SD Cards. How many pictures can be recorded with a1GB SD Card? Also,if I do buy an SD Card is there any other additional hardware or software that I need to buy to view pictures?Thanksfor you help.

RE: SD Card question
There are a couple of things to point out concerning your questions.
1. The size of the SD card memory purchased is relative to the size of SD card your game camera will accept. Some accept 512mb cards, some acept 1 gig cards, and some can accept 2 gig or more cards. But they will not all accept all sizes of cards. Check the specifications of the model of camera you are buying to find out.
2. The number of pictures that a SD card will hold is dependant on three things. 1 ) the amount of memory of the SD card, 2) the resolution setting of the camera. Some are adjustable by low or high resolution. Naturally you will get a greater number of pictures on lower resolution than you will on higher resolution settings, and 3) the pixel resolution of the camera. A 0.3 megapixel will not require as much memory per picture as a 6.0 megapixel camera. all the cameras in between ( 1.0 , 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 megapixel cameras ) will fall in between.
Now to give you an idea. I used Moultrie cameras the last several years. Each was outfitted with a 1 gig SD card. Setting the camera on high resolution, The SD card would hold 1877 pictures.
The question about extra equipment depends on your current equipment. If your computer - like my laptop - has a built in multiple card reader, you need nothing further. If you are using a desktop, since most desktops do not have that feature, you will probably need to buy a SD card reader with a USB connection. They run about 15 - 20.00. You can often find them on sale for around 15.00.
I would definitely buy the SD card for the camera. It assures you will run out of battery life in the camera, before you run out of camera memory. That is the best way, cause whats the point of having camera life but no memory. Additionally, you can buy bigger( higher amp / hour )batteries, and hook them up externally, like I did, and I can go for 3 - 4 weeks on a charge, taking 500 - 700 pictures a week , per camera. That way I disturb the areas on my lease a lot less.
Hope this helps you and answers your questions.
