Default Home brew cameras, who does it?

I'm growing increasingly frustrated with the camara's currently offered and am thinking about building one. I've been researching Pixcontroller.com and it really doesn't look all that difficult.

Does anyone have any experience building them? Any advice on camera's or any tips?

Two great sites to research this topic.

http://hagshouse.ipbhost.com/forums/index.php?act=index

I make my own and they have worked great for over 3 years now.

Those are great sites. Just go there and start reading and doing searches. I did it. Built one cam already, have two more sitting on my bench almost ready to go.

One thing that has my interest. I want infrared flash models. I found an article on pixcontroller the has step by step instructions for a few particular camera models on how to modify them to see infrared flash.

Seem pretty straight forward.

Thanks.

From the way guys talk, that Olympus d380, and the sony p32 are the easiest to make IR. I scored a p32, so that is one I am definitely going to make IR.

What kind of money do you guys have to put in to build a decent cam? Do you get out any cheaper doing it yourself or is it just a better cam for the money?

If you guys are afraid to modify the Sony cameras I have can do em for you. I do 2.5mm stereo jacks on the P32, P41 and S600. I will also supply the male end cable as well as connect it to your PIR board (any manufacturer). YOu can PM me or look my services up on the pixcontroller web site under Wildlife Images. Just pull down his services tab.

Mohican, its my understanding the sony's are the best to use because of having fast trigger time. Is this true? Pixcontroller has very thorough instructions on modifying the Olympus cameras for IR. Nothing found on the Sony's though. Are the sony's any more difficult?

I'm pretty good with electronics and such and feel very confident making my own units. Just collecting some info right now to get going with. Great winter project.
