My T/C PA Hunter has the 1-66 twist barrel and likes 85 grains of Black Powder and a .490 patched round ball. A very accurate cap lock. I just wish it were a flintlock. But you will enjoy that rifle for sure. Well balanced too.

The PA Hunter was originally only a flintlock with a 1:66 twist made for the Pennsylvania primitive season when only flintlock ignition and round ball were permitted. Now you can use any projectile but still flintlock only. And you can also now use a peep sight but no scopes.
The caplock version came out a bit later. Fine rifles and really accurate.

My Mrs. has a PA hunter carbine and both her and I have taken deer with it. Actually, it's the rifle I'm holding in my avatar. The earlier models were half octagon, half round barrels and later they were full octagon.
The carbine shoots well with 70gr. fffg and a patched .490 ball. I've shot heavier loads but the 70gr. load gave me the best group with that short barrel.
It's not my "go to" gun for stand or stalk hunting, but I love to carry it when we put on drives because it's so light. The deer shown in my avatar was shot on a drive we made. She doubled back and came right to me...BAD MOVE!!

I don't know what necessarily constitutes the meaning of "better" for stalking. I guess if it were dependent on the weight of the gun, the PA carbine is better but it's not my most accurate. If it is an issue of wanting to carry a more accurate rifle, I believe my trusty Ol' .50 Renegade flinter is one of the most accurate while still not being too heavy.
My .54 Renegade flinter with the GM 1:70 twist roundball barrel is very accurate but too damn heavy to spend the day carrying. The Firestorm flinter is a relatively light gun and I'll carry that when the weather's bad but it's not as accurate as the Renegade .50.
I rarely shoot or hunt with my T/C Hawken .45 flinter anymore. It was my first flintlock, purchased in 1976 and I've pretty much retired it to the gun safe. I have another .54 Renegade flinter that the bore is kinda rough on and while the accuracy isn't horrible, it's not the greatest. I trust it out to 50 yards or so and use that for a loaner in case a newbie wants to hunt with us.
I'd love to have a custom rifle but I just can't justify the cost, they won't kill a deer any deader than anything I currently have. I guess my .50 Renegade flinter is my "go to" gun for most hunting situations.

Yes I meant BPRifles BPS.I had a Firestorm for years that I bought new and takin a few deer with it.But I decided to sell it for several reasons. The first it was to unbalanced bein muzzle heavy because of the plastic stock. The syn stock bein the other reason as the longer I owned it the more I hated the looks and feel of that black plastic stock.I only own BP,s in walnut now which is really the way all flinty,s shoud be.
