I just found this thread so I thought I'd throw my .02 in. I just recently started shooting a recurve, and have Ferguson's book and video. Each time I watch the video. or re-read a part of the book I pick up something new. For me I think it helped to start off gap-shooting, because I think it is really important for a new shooter to be able to distinguish between a miss that is caused by poor technique, and a miss caused by not aiming properly--if that makes sense. There is also a lot of fundamental stuff that is helpful to new recurve/longbow shooters that experienced guys probably already know.
My accuracy is improving. I haven't Become the Arrow yet, More like I have become the "error". LOL

Rangeball, I found the section on getting straight arrow flight and sight pictures the most helpful to me. Like Ferguson said in the book, if the arrow goes straight it has a chance. Shooting instinctively, or in my case, the Asbell style, I never looked at my arrows; thus, I never had any inkling of where it was going. The elevation was often right, but the farther out I shot, the farther left or right of the mark the arrow went. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I've seen him in person two or three times--the man can shoot! His best trait is his personality though--every time I've talked to him he's been the same good 'ol boy from Alabama, as down to earth as anyone and always willing to talk or listen if he has time. His wife is a sweetheart too (and a brave woman). Unfortunately he doesn't do the show here anymore--we used to have a great Tri-State "Sportsman's Bonanza", but it's pretty much been overtaken with boats and ATV's--I haven't even bothered going the last few years. Don't care to pay to park, walk at least 1/2 mile to the door, pay to get in, and look at a bunch of boats, jet skis, and 4-wheelers.

I agree Chad, he is a very down to earth fellow. We caught him walking to the stage at the expo and he took the time to talk and sign an autograph for my son (I wanted one too, but didn't want to delay him). We got front row seating and my son gave him a big hurray after every shot. After the show Wanda went out of her way to come over and talk to my son. Great people and great spokesmen to the sport.
