Glass shafts
(Selling part removed)
Anybody know where you can find fiberglass or graphlex shafts. only places I have found them are Dan Quillian and Arrows by Kelly. Neither has the right size. I am looking for size 9's in the glass, and 60/70 reds in the graphlexes. This is getting stressful. Eeerrkk.

RE: Glass shafts
Are you sure they still have them? I checked online yesterday and it didn't show them. I have a catolog from last year or so, and I saw them in there. Ohh well, I guess I am going to just go with aluminums. I can't stand to go on a goose hunt everytime I need to get arrows. 2018's ought to work nicely, and I will order a dozen Green gamegetters to destroy when I get my next check. I have an awesome idea for crowning and cresting arrows with spray paint. I just need to decide what cleargoat I want to put on. A spray would be ideal, or I would have to devise a dip tank because I don't think I want to order one. Something I can get at the paint store would be ideal for the clearcoat.

Toxo--Yea I think that I'll stick with my 2018's also, after all alum. arrows put the fiberglass boys out of business long ago-must have been a good reason for it.Also, I crowned my gamegetters with Krylon (several coats)and did't put any clear coat on I'm not real sure you need it-no problems yet,but I didn't crest just put on the feathers and let 'em rip. Hey Toxo...
I'm not a very good rule reader but I don't see people selling stuff here, so if you want to follow up on these shafts, hit my email icon or send to [email protected].

C Rexer if you don't seal the paint in warm or hot weather the paint will be tackey. You do need to seal them. I use poly. either with a foam brush or spray on. 2 or 3 coats then sand with emery cloth real fine ( don't remember what number ) then put final coat.

RE: Glass shafts
I used Rust-oleum and it would scrape off if you scratched it, and some was coming off on my black strike plate. Plus, it looked like spray paint. It didn't look quite right. I am going to buy some yellow and red Krylon (what kind of Krylon do you guys use) and a can of Poly and have at it. I am not really going to crest them, but do a "double dip" where the half toward the point wil be yellow(with 1 orange band) and the nock half orange. I saw a pic of something similar somewhere and it looked awesome considering the simplicity. I have tried to do the tiny line cresting with spray paint and it isn't quite as easy. Can be done though, you just have to do a lot of tapping.

Be careful of one thing - the inserts ! My Gordon shafts appear to be 23/64th shaft diameter, and they have thicker walls so the problem I found was that the insert lip does not cover the end of the shaft completely. In other words, hit something hard and it tends to drive the insert into the shafts instead of the shaft absorbing the blow. I had it happen. Went to an archery shot today and ALL aluminum inserts are like that. Big problem unless you never hit anything solid - and I miss a LOT. DOn't have a solution either ......
