Default Suggestions on which custom recurves to look at?

If a guy were looking to step up to a better custom recurve after having sold his old childhood Bear recurves, what would the experienced stick shooters on this forum recommend he look at? I'm looking for a 62" recurve for my 31.5" drawlength and was hoping I could get some suggestions on bowyers or specific recurves made by bowyers. I know the Checkmates are loved by the community here, but I was hoping for some other good suggestions on smooth and quiet shooting recurves. Bob Lee and Wes Wallace have two bows that have caught my eye at this point. Are they good shooters? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Check out Timbersprit bows. I had a real nice recurve built. Got a lot of good feed back on this forum about them before I ordered one.

Bob Lee will never let ya down. Mine is hanging on the wall, retired of course. My partner has a Wes Wallace, man is it purdy! It also shoots great, albeit he dont let it out of his hands for more then a few arras ! I hear the checkmate hunter II's are nice also and much cheaper! My wife has a Timberspirit bow, sure wish she would shoot it!!! (learned not to force the issue as its up to her to decide to become a archer or not...havent even gotten to the bowhunting part yet !

There are a ton of bows though, almost as many different bowyers and designs as there are vehicles and options. Ya kinda have to test drive what ya can in order to be happy!

Here is a link with a ton of bowyers to look through.

Black Widow. After an exhaustive search for years I've yet to find another recurve bow that shoots as good for me. They have a "test drive" program too.

Chipshot,

Check out the list Lilhunter gave you, look over the bows.
When you see certain bows that appeal to you, go to stickbow.com
Click on "Leather Wall" go to the bottom of the page to the blue search block. Type in the name of the bow you're interested in.
For example... Black Widow
Don't type "Black Widow Bow or Bows" For some reason you won't get as many categories if you do.
That's how I found out about the Trails End Recurve I have on order and the Sley Recurve I now have.
To me, the Trails End is the most beautiful Recurve I've ever seen.
My Sley, again to me, is beautiful and the best built Recurve I've ever seen.
I'm definitely going to order another Sley.
But what I like may leave you or someone else cold.
That's why you should check out as many bows as possible and decide for yourself.
Dale Dye, of Trails End, doesn't have a website. Type in "Dale Dye" if you happen to want do a search on his bows.
Of course, the guys on this site can also answer your questions on most bows you may be interested in.
It's just that on Leather Wall the information is vast and already available to you.
Good luck with your search!

chipshot - I like longbows and really haven't shot that many recurves, but two of those recurves stand out - Black Widow SA and the Brackenbury Legend. Both are higher end priced bows, both were smooth and good shooters. I'd give the edge to the Widow though, because of the finish and the reputation they have. Wouldn't buy one new, and wouldn't buy one without shooting it first for sure !!

This site, http://home.earthlink.net/~tradarcher/Linksnew.htm , has a bunch of bowyers on it. LOTS to choose from. If it were me (and its what I did when I was looking for my first bow) I'd surf all of them, write down the ones that strike your fancy, then cross reference what people say about them on the Leatherwall (stickbow.com). Then decide if you want new or used. Used bows, go to http://www.women-outdoors.com/cgi-bi...lassifieds.cgi and look at their classified. For a new bow, contact your narrowed down, chosen few and then its up to you to pick one.

I'll say this - not all bows are created equal. I got lucky I think in getting my OL Adcock bow, as all other longbows have failed to match up against it. He doesn't do recurves though. Border bows will send you a really cool CD on their bows if you request it, and the Sley bows are works of art. If your want gorgeous, check out Acadian Woods bows ....

I was impressed with the Fox recurves I saw at the Kalamazoo expo. Some more nice bows I saw was Hornes bows. They offered a riser that you could get either longbow, recurve limbs, or both. Nice looking bows. Bruin had some pretty nice bows. I saw a used one they had, and it fit my hand well, and looked awesome.

Dianna. Got my Timberspirit around Aug/ sept. Cant rember the exact date. Had to wait awhile as Joe had some moving chores to take care of but it was worth it.
