When I first decided to get me a custom Black Widow I got the demo bow at 40# and they recomended 2117 arrows with 125gr heads... I got bow and it shot great, made me look like I new what I was doing arrows flew like darts!!! So I made the plung and bought one... Mine is a 43# and I went ahead and bought a dozen more 2117's (29")... Anyhow Im getting good arrow flight...
Every time I read a post about arrows and bows. Every body pretty much recomends a lighter spine arrow for a 40# recurve somewere in the 2016-2018 spine...
Im just wondering why my bow and the demo bow I shot really liked the 2117...
I have a half dozen 2016 laying around from my old Bear Kodiak Mag that is 52# and it shot the 2016 great...

Also - every shooter shoots with diff form and mechanics. I know guys that can shoot a 70# bow with 2117's and others that use 2018's or 2216's! Everyone is diff!
I used to subscribe to the theory that it's better to be overspined than under - so I'd shoot like 2117's or 2020's from my 50# recurve - and they were way over spined for ME. I can only shoot like 2016 or 2018's from my bow and have them fly right.
So everyone is just diff and if you read G. Fred Asbell's book 'Instinctive Shooting' he also notes the same issue as well....

i shoot a number of recurves that range from 45 to 50 #'s and out of all of them they handle 2014. 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2117. the difference is speed, trajectory. and so i shoot 2016 and have been doing so since the 60's. you will also get a little more speed out of graphite and with the 40 lbs. you will need it. you will have a hard time killing a turkey with 40 lbs. penetration is hard to come by on a turkey and don't use a large broadhead either for turkey, it will bounce off. i can tell you of many sad tales of hitting a turkey and watching the arrow fall to the ground like i hit a cement block. i have another post somewhere describing it but nobody responded

That combination has killed an awful lot of deer. I have a 50# take down that shot 1916s the best for me. Yes they were incredibly weakly spined for that bow but for some reason they gave me the best flight and accuracy.

The amount of CS determines the amount of linear force behind the arrow dynamically when shot.
The more outward the CS is equates to strengthening the arrow because of the offset.
Unless the 2117's are really long with a lot of front loading, I'm thinking they would show very stiff with your set up.
Have you bareshafted or shot through paper?
