Im done with board bows and self bows for a while. They are about to wear me out. I just finished another osage bamboo bow and shipped it out. Im wore out tillering bows, im jumping back on the lam bow bandwaggon for a while. I like to make what ever I need in my shop, I hate waiting on glass to arive.[:@]

Kent it's not so much as waiting for the glass but getting the wood lams ground and shipped.

I have a bid in on a drum sander on Ebay ( you other guys back off it) if I win that then I will be doing all my own lams in woods that I have not seen anyone else use

But for now I am gonna change and go shoot the take down

What weight/length did you target on the r/d?

You ought to post a pic of your BBO.

Hey kent, I know I still have 2 bows that need final touches with tiller, but I started chasing a ring on another stave I have. I think chasing the rings is theopeutic in some way. But anyway, there is a ring I like, but don't think I will have enough room for the handle. Is it simple as going down to that ring, roughing out the belly and adding a handle and then tillering?

You can do that, as long as you have a static handle area. If I understand right, you are saying that your handle area is going to be the same wideth as the top of your fades? If that is the case, you need to be careful with bending in the handle, which could cause you to pop off your handle. If it is thick enough to where you get no bend in the handle area, yea, you can just glue on a handle. Ive done it before. What id do would be, tiller it out with out the handle. If you are not getting any bend in your handle area, glue on a block and make a handle. If you get a simi bending handle area, id glue on leather pads, then wrap the handle with leather and make a simibending handled bow. It all depends on how thick your handle area is.

Thats my issue. I can make everything I need in my shop. I can cut and grind all my lams, but have to wait on a glass order to come in before I can make a lam bow. I can get a lam bow built in about two days. I can start with nothing but boards and have all my lams cut, riser cut, and glued up and shaped in less than two days. That is, as long as I have the glass backing and belly. Waiting on glass just drives me nuts.

I think I understand. Your saying that a bowyer can't take a D-tiller bend in the handle bow and just add a handle to make it a stiff handle bow. I need enough wood to make it stiff before I add the handle? Not sure if I got that much wood. Its a risk. If I go down to that ring I want, and don't have the wood needed, I just made myself a bend in the handle bow like it or not.
