I shoot some 23/64 tapered to 5/16 cedars that average 585g with a 125g broadhead, out of my 54# longbow.

I have a 24" drawlength. I shoot a 25" tbop taperd 11/32 to 5/16 RRA arrow. Until this year I have used 125 grain Grizzlys. I won 1 doz. Steelforce 125 grain 2 blade broadheads,so I tried them this time. Wow was I impressed ! I did not have to shapen them. I took 2 deer and 2 turkeys with the same head and the head is still in great shape.

I have 3 little cresting lines on my arrows, use 4 " feathers , and one coat of sealer on my arrows to keep weight down. I do shoot the same arrows for target shooting and hunting.

I tried that too and now my budgets fly better than my premiums. The heavier arrows spiral to the left making them usless.

If you want heavy, there' s a guy in alaska remaking compressed shafts on Sweetland' s old machinery. They' re supposed to weigh a TON.

This is a little off topic, but I thought you guys might find it interesting. A friend of mine picked up some aluminum shafts the other day, I think they were made by " Golden Key" or something like that and are designed for extremely large game. Get this, they are 2640' s. They look like a small piece of conduit. We weighed the full length shaft, no nock, fletching, insert or point, just the shaft was 960 grains. Wish we had a spine tester...

Ash, maple, and laminated birch. I have not problem getting arrow weights in excess of 700gr with any of those materials. My newest laminated birch weighted in at 580gr for bare shafts, I have some maples that wiegh right in the same range and I used to have some ash that weighed 520gr for bare shafts. These are all good shafting material and fairly easy to find. 3 rivers sells the laminated birch and there are a few places that you can get the ash and maple. Look in a copy of TBM magazine there are several of thier sponsers that sell them.
