What best describes you?

I've noticed since I've been on this forum that some folks are more involved on the target side of these Traditional bows and some are more into the hunting part using Traditional bows. I'm sure some are a little of both. What best describes you the most? Target shooter? Bow Hunter? Both? Bow Techy? Which are you better at or just enjoy more from the questions I listed?

I'm allot more into the hunting part of these Traditional bows. I'm not much into the target archery part of it. I enjoy 3-d shoots but my passion is hunting with them. The tech side of things I'm average, I wish I had more knowledge in the arrow department.

I love the whole experience. Techie part to make it just right, 3d shoot to get confidense, and harvesting an animal. In the end, I am a hunter, all the other things target practice and techie part, are just supporting roles for the hunt.

I agree.I'm into the whole experience.First and foremost,I'm a hunter and I love to bowhunt, but I'm just as happy shooting at my club or going to a trad rendezvous--I look forward to the shoots almost as much as I do hunting season. As far as the tech side of it--I demand that my equipment is performing to it's best potential and I think to get that potential out of it,you really have to be know what is the best match(arrows, points, bows, strings, etc). For a 1 bow shooter,it's simplified alot more than for somebody who shoots differant bows

And being a 1 bow archer, you know what works best for you--no sense in tinkering when you have a good set-up.I shoot 6 differant bows.My 3 recurves(same bowyer, differant weights)all shoot the same arrow set-up.My1 longbow shoots the same arrow as the 'curves,but2 of my longbows shoots a differant shaft.Might sound a little confusing but actually,it wasn't that bad.I've been shooting carbons for the last 4 yrs and recently got back into aluminums the last year or so
Last year,I went thru a Hill phase and bought 3 differant Hill bows.I couldn't get an arrow to fly decently off any of them if my life depended on it[:@]That was a little frustrating and I wound up selling or trading them off.
But overall,I do enjoy spine-testing and weighing the arrows and tuning them to the bow

Why so many bows Jim? I've always wondered why some people have so many trad bows they hunt with. No knock on you one bit but wouldn't it be easier to get use to just shooting and hunting with the same bow?

I'm new in the Traditional game as many of you know with a Longbow purchase at the turn of the year! I really enjoyed getting my bow in tune with my arrow, something I didn't really care for with my compound, I had to do it, with my Longbow I look forward and enjoy tinkering. I got into it for the hunting aspect of it and love to shoot my bow now more that any bow ever before. I tell ya the first time I walked in the woods with my Longbow hunting Turkeys this year it was like a whole new experience almost like a first time out kinda thing, I don't know if that makes sense or not? I've never really been into shooting to keep score type of guy, I do enjoy shooting at 3d targets for practice though! I'm in it for the hunt and enjoy shooting my bow daily!
I also really enjoy just reading and learning about this whole thing as well, very cool!

Well Schultzy,it's an addiction
.Actually,my 3 recurves are the same(Shafer Silvertips). They're all 58" and scale at 51,54,& 56#.The grips are exactly alike(a major plus with me),they all shoot the same arrow, and they hit where I'm looking.I also have 2 Black Widow longbows(47# PLX and a 50# PLV) and a 50# Shafer longbow. Now the Shafer longbow has the same grip as the recurves but it shoots a differant arrow. My PLV will shoot the same arrow as the recurves. The PLX shoots a differant shaftas well(that's my form bow/late season bow)
I mostly shoot the 51 & 54# recurves and the PLV.Some days I just feel like shooting a recurve and other daysI feel longbow.I guess I just like getting a new bow every now and then(I bought 5 this year so far

Actually, I want to really get into this selfbow scene. I think it would be really satisfying harvesting game with everything primitive that I and I alone made. tips, cane, sinew pine pitch, animal glue, the whole thing
I have just started my second selfbow, and just identified a pignut hickory to harvest in a few months, and let the staves dry for winter. Somebody, please stop me. I am out of control
. Seriously however, this bow is going to be for my son. Sure he has 5-7 years before he can shoot it. But its going to be a 25lb osage. But your 110% correct, just not wired that way. Wish I was. Always looking for something else.
