Nice stable you got going on there Jim! I don't know how you guys do it, you and BC have some very nice bows and a lot of them![8D] I would drive myself nuts trying to shoot them all. Hell I'm already driving myself nuts browsing the classifieds on tradgang.... One thing I do want is a bow built just for me, I'm looking into ordering one over the summer, Marriah or RER might have my name on it soon enough!

Another reason is I don't hunt close to home anymore(alot of deer but alot more posted land[:@]).I go to my cabin every weekend during bow season which is about a 3hr drive. So I have to have a back-up bow.I take extra strings and some spare items for any quick fixes, but if I breaka limb,my hunt won't be ruined. For the weekend hunts,I'll usually take a longbow and a recurve.I spend the whole last week of the season at camp so I usually take at least 3 bows along

I've noticed since I've been on this forum that some folks are more involved on the target side of these Traditional bows and some are more into the hunting part using Traditional bows. I'm sure some are a little of both. What best describes you the most? Target shooter? Bow Hunter? Both? Bow Techy? Which are you better at or just enjoy more from the questions I listed?
I really get into both hunting and target archery. I've been hunting with a recurve and/or longbowfor 11 years and shooting comp. for almost 10, with a break or two in thrown in there. If I really had to choose between the two, which would be extremely difficult, I'd probably swing more towards the target archery side of things though. Only because I have many more opportunities to put arrows down range during a tourney than I do in a day of hunting. I just flat out love to shoot.
In the 11 years I've been shooting, I've gone full circle with equipment. I've owned wood riser recurves (one piece and takedown), HH style and r/d longbows, selfbows,(spent almost 2 years building and shooting those) and a tricked out olympic style target recurve. The last couple of years have been spent primarily shooting what is considered a more "traditional" style takedown setup due to the equipment rules at the majority of 3D shoots attend. I'm pretty anal about the techy side of things. I make my own strings, put together my own arrows and really take a good bit of time when it comes to tuning and tweeking a bow and arrow combo. When I draw down on a target (living or foam) I want to be able to focus on the shot process and putting the arrow where it needs to go. I don't want any equipment doubts popping up during the shot.

Schultzy......I'm sorry about earlier today. I believe I read more into your statement than what you really intended.

I love the whole experience. Techie part to make it just right, 3d shoot to get confidense, and harvesting an animal. In the end, I am a hunter, all the other things target practice and techie part, are just supporting roles for the hunt.
That sums it up for meperfectly . I would like to learn as much as I can about the tech. side of it. Only so that I can squeeze the most out of my equipment for hunting.

No worries Chris, Its all good!!

Thanks for the replys everyone. When I said I wasn't big into the target archery part I didn't mean I didn't do any practicing for hunting, thought I'd clear that one up.

One thing that I can say about this Traditional forum is we have some of the most ethical and respectable bow hunters around, allot of people in this Trad forum take pride in what they do. The Tech side of these Trad bows you folks are amazing!!!! I never seen so many people who know as much as you all do, thats awesome!!

I've got to get myself a back up recurve one of these days. I keep saying I'm going to get it done and thats all the farther it goes. It would be a real bugger being up in the mountains of Montana and one of my limbs cracks on my Recurve. This summer It better get done, I just don't want to spend allot of money being Its only a back up.

Thanks again everyone!!

Schultzy what ever you do stay away from the tradgang's classifieds, you might end up with a few "back up" bows!!!! There are a lot of nice Bows in there!

I am soley a hunter. I get into the techie side only to be self sufficient and understand my gear. I don't "enjoy" the techy side, but I do try and learn it. Sometimes it can be frustrating getting too into the techy side.
I've shot indoor 3d and it was fun, more so because of the people not the shooting. I like to shoot, but I don't like target archery.

And as far as the multiple bows goes, for me its like have agun collection.I'm surethat I would probably have bows that would never get shot just as I have guns that never get taken to the range(or at least not as often as I'd like to take them) I like having one bow I can get very comfortable with and not have to figure out or worry which one I am shooting. I am still too new, maybe once I get a lot more experience I can bounce from bow to bow, I know there's a few I'd like to own out htere.

I'm a hunter that likes to shoot 3-D. I'm not very technical--I don't particularly care why something works. As long as it works, I'm happy--I won't usually try to figure out the why's and how's. I do try to keep up with string materials though.

I own a few bows, shoot just one 90% of the time. Used to own a whole bunch of bows, just don't care to now.

I'm better at 3-D than I am at hunting. I think luck has a part to play in both--I've had good luck at tournaments, not so good luck hunting. I'm pretty much self-taught with both, although I look for hints and help where I can find it. I've managed to kill a few critters with a longbow--a lot of small game, a few big game critters. Actually had better luck with a longbow than when I hunted with a rifle--go figure.

I enjoy the history of the sport, and the friends I've made through it. I just like to shoot arrows--I'll shoot at foam, fur, fins.......it's all good.
