gettin started

Default gettin started

i just started shootin traditional in the back yard for a couple weeks here with my dads 42# Ben Pearson fiberglass recurve. i shoot off the shelf and only have 2 aluminum arrows with feathers- all others have viens. and i was wondering... should i buy some carbons or stick withaluminums ?

More of a preference in what you like I guess. If it were me it would be Aluminums and them my 2nd choice would be wood.

I mostly shoot carbons--other times aluminums.Being that you're just getting started,I think alum's would be a little easier to tune toyour bow than carbons.I don't know what your draw length is but a 1716 or 1816 would work well if you draw 27"-28"

I'd stay with the aluminums too.Keep a eye on the glass bow also.I think wood would be asking a lot out of the older glassbow.IMO

Which ever you like. Ill agree with the notion that aluminum will be easier to tune. You can cut aluminum shafts easily with out a high speed, abrasive saw and you can simply pull theinserts out with a little heat. I shoot carbon with my trad bows, just because they are more durable. No other reason. I shot wood and aluminum for years. But one thing, the vanes have got to go. Feathers are much more forgiving when shooting off a shelf.
