Default Choosing a recurve or longbow?

I was inspired by BobCo.

Like I said before, I am getting back into archery/hunting and am still undecided about what bow I am going to purchase.Compounds are more involved, but how do you go about choosing a longbow or recurve for bowhunting???? I would like to get one as well.

Same as choosing any other. Try shooting a few longbows and a few recurves, then choose the one that feels and shootsbest for you. You'll eventuallywind up with at least one of each anyway.

The only way I tell everyone to pick out a longbow or recurve is to shoot them. Alot of them. Everybody likes the smooth draw of a longbow, but generally do not like the short BH. Also, you need to pick out a length. People generally goes to 3 finger under shooting because they pick out a bow they pinch the arrow, and 3 under helps them with that. Also helps them to gap shoot easier with arrow closer to the eye. But also sometimes 3 under can cause headaches when tryign to find you nock position and correct spine. Sometimes you cannot eliminate poipusing of bareshaft. Point I am making is don't go too short with a longbow or recurve. I am 6'2", and really need a 64" bow IMO. A 5'9" man could easily get away with the 60" bows out there.

That's terrific!!!

Get the style that interests you.

It is great to try a bunch out, but even after doing that you still may not be sure what you will want in the longrun. I'm 100% withArt that eventually, you'll end up with both so don'tdrive yourselfcrazy over the decision.

My advise is not to get overbowed. It'll take a whileto get the right muscles working and form down. For the first bow, 45#'s will be about right and it is enough to take down a deer. Also, don't get too short for your first. On average depending on your draw length, I'd say about 62" for recurve and 66" for longbow (minimum). You'll probably loose 1-2" in draw from your compound.

Let us know how you make out.

Bob

get a 60"-64" 3 piece TD longbow, 50# range, 5575 Gold Tips cut to 30", glove and go have fun

that combo works great for just about everybody, smooth, nice shooting, fairly quick, nice draw weight, and you can always sell it if it don't work for you

I can't add much to what's already been said. Most folks have an eye for one more so than the other. Eitherdesign willget the job done as a hunting bow. Start with the design that most peaks your interest, then start trying different bows.
