Bow Hunter Brandon

Well I took the bow out and shot it today for a few tries. It was alot of fun. However after about 6 shots I noticed that I broke the rest. Any idea's on what to do to fix this? Here are some pictures. The first is the broken one the second is the side that is not broken.

One eye- First a couple of thoughts.the plastic that your rest was made of was most likely very old and brittle,you should make sure that your nock-point is properly placed so as not to put undue stress on your rest(ie: with a bow square-1/8&quot; to 3/16&quot; above center) also you must make sure that your arrows are correctly spined for your bow,as the wrong spined arrow can do all kinds of werd stuff when it is released.Fixing your problem it the easiest of all,there are all kinds of stick-on rests around and they will most likely work much better than the rest that you had on there. I can recommend several that I know are good, having used them extensively myself, one is the flipper rest,and the other is the old hoyt pro rest,there are several new types of the hoyt out(Black widow makes a new stainless steel verson that is great and sells for 5 or 6 dollars you might be able to order it right off their websight)if you shoot left handed you'll have to get a left hand rest. c. rexer thanks for the info. Your right the arrow was not spined for the bow it was to heavy. As far as the nock points its 1/8 above so it should be ok. Again thanks for the info.

There used to be a rest similar to yours made from 5-6 feathers standing up on edge. They are stick on. I'm not sure if they are still made but it wouldn't be hard to make one yourself. Dick

3Rivers sells a feather rest that looks similar to the one on your bow. It's item #3577 in their catalog. $2.50 plus shipping.

or you could make your own with a razor blade, fletch tite and a feather.

I might be mistaken but I think that this might be an old Ben pearson bow-they have no arrow shelf at all the plastic rest on it slips under the handle wrapping. Therefore you would be much better off to use the type of rest that I described in my first note. Do you shoot left handed? Cam <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Cam I do shoot left handed. And you are right about the rest sliping down into the handle wrap. I picked up a stick on fliper rest today and it will work but I would like to make a repair that is more to the origional setup. I think I will look into finding an exact replacement and if I cant do the fether style.

Ok good, you might have trouble finding a rest like the one that is on your bow cause they were made 40 to 50 years ago(or more). Two more things first, you could move the good rest over to your side of the bow(don't thing these had a right or left),second take two pair of longnose pliers and bend the very tip of your flipper rest arm up a bit (do this after you put on the little plastic tube)this will help you keep your arrow from falling off the rest -at least until you get practiced a bit-good luck Cam<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>
