Default Summit Tree Stands

Well, here is my story (and I'm stickin to it). A good while back I had the opportunity to sit in the new Summit Revolution, set up at a local hunting store. Man alive, it was the most comfortable stand I have ever been in, and I had to have one. It was rock solid on the pole, and the store owner, who is about the same size as me, said he it had been a hot item. I found one a few weeks ago at a good price, and bought it. Couldn't wait to get that jewel in the woods. Not quite as simple as most stands, but I figure with a little practice it wouldn't be much trouble to use. Climbing with it takes some getting use to also, because of the way it has you sitting out from the tree further than any I had been in before.

Anyway, I get to my spot, primarily just to try out the stand. When I got up the tree, it was indeed super comfortable, and I was able to sit still for hours without any discomfort. However, I knew then I would never climb a tree with it again.

The stand was as solid as a rock when in place, but the little bar that supports you when you sit down to climb is not strong enough for my big behind (when they say it is rated for no more than 300#, they mean it!) I was afraid it was going to bend at any time--it stressed to the point that paint flaked off at the bends and welds.

I contacted Summit via e-mail, and even though I had admitted I was over the weight limit, they sent me a new stand--the Goliath (rated for 350#). The service could have been a little faster, but I was impressed that they went to that extent, as they were under no obligation to cover for my ignorance. I just got the Goliath, and haven't had a chance to climb a tree with it yet, but it looks comfortable.

For anyone that is under 300lbs (I'd say 275 and under), the Revolution is a good choice. It is super comfortable, and I think climbing wouldn't be that bad once you got used to it. Not the lightest stand to carry in, but it is great for those who like to stay in the stand a long time. The service Summit provided was well above average too, in my opinion. I felt it was perfect for bowhunting--I could have taken a shot at most any angle, except directly behind the tree, due to the open front (still a sit-down/stand-up climber).

Basically just wanted to say that Summit stands behind what they sell.

Hey Chad, glad to hear they took good care of you. That sounds like a stand that I need. I cant sit in a tree stand for long, and my back starts killing me. Most stands have the seat too close to the tree, and you cant lean back and relax. I'll have to check them out.

You mean to tell me your over the 300# limit? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I think your mom fed you hay when you were growing up.

Chad,
That's the stand that I'm using now. I do like it a lot. The bar in front makes you stand for the shot but comfortable? WOW! I don't like the harness they sent with the stand. The leg buckles are too far back. That's the only thing about the stand that really bothers me. The stand gets easier with practice. I Really like the stand. Hey Chad, we 300 pounders have finally got a great stand to use. Dick

Thanks Dick--makes me feel better! I haven't had the weather to try it out yet--wind has been blowing like crazy since I got it out of the box. I agree with the safety harness (tried it on). Leg buckles are a pain, but.....small price to pay if you fell I reckon. I much rather stand for the shot anyway.

I hope to get back down to 300# (or a lot less) in the near future. If I get any bigger, gonna' have to get a tower erected to hunt out of!

Kip,

Take a look at the BuckShot stands.
You can hunt facing the tree or away.
In the facing position with the backrest adjusted properly. It's even more comfortable than a Tree Lounge!
But facing away from the tree is comfortable too.
You lower the rail in this position and you're set for bowhunting.
You can shoot from any position.
It's easy to climb with and rock steady.
I got the BuckShot Mag recently and love it. It's heavy though at 32 lbs. But the regular BuckShot weighs 24 lbs.
Of course, the Goliath is a great stand too.

As you may know, I abandoned tree stands a long time ago(for good reason) however, this year, I've been working a cagey buck, and decided to buy one. I got the Lone Wolf sit and climb. So far, been very happy with it.

I was looking at the Buckshot too, but never had a chance to check one out in person. Looks like a really nice stand--might get one of those when I get my next one.

John,
I've heard good things about the Lone Wolf Sit and Climb. What is it rated for and does it have a wide spread in the seat? The Goliath has a wider spread between the arm rests than most stands. Scraping your coveralls on the armrests will spook a deer. (Experience!) Dick
