Doh. I have a recurve (garage sale, $5) and I don't know how in the sam hill to tell if it's a righty or a lefty. I know w/ my compoundI hold it w/ my right hand and look w/ my left eye. But w/ the recurve (unstrung) the limbs are pointing away from me, correct? And the a lefty bow the shelf is on the right? That seems backwards. Sorry for the basic question.

Just like a compound--if it's a left-handed bow,the shelf/rest is on the right side.And yes,unstrung the limbs will be curved away from you.

That is correct as long as you are holding the bow in the strung position.
